Type 2 Diabetes and Healthy Eating – Are You Eating Whole-Wheat Pasta?

Some foods are considered staples in a healthy eating plan, and for a good reason. It would benefit any individual to implement them into their diet, and this is especially the case if there is a condition that must be managed, like Type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol. In some cases, you could consider it essential to introduce a few of these healthy foods. It would be a shame to fall victim to a preventable disease just because of poor food choices.

Let us focus on the healthy staples. Arguably, one of the best additions any adult could include in their diet is whole-wheat pasta. Why? Whole grains are great for you, and carbohydrates are essential. Since you have to eat them, you might as well focus on whole grains (and vegetables). Perhaps, more importantly, is the fact by eating more whole grains, it likely means you would be consuming fewer processed carbs.

Whole grains are almost always seen as the inferior option from a taste perspective. But this is because most people are just not used to eating them. As soon as it becomes a habit, many people find they prefer whole grains because they know it is the better option, even if it is not always the tastiest.

Regarding pasta, you might find it is a staple in your diet anyway. It is food that can be combined with so many others and can be a perfect solution when you need a meal in a matter of minutes. There are numerous ways to eat pasta so you can always find your favorite dishes. If you opt for whole grain pasta, you will be doing yourself several favors…

  • providing your body more nutrients, since whole grains contain more micronutrients: vitamins and mineral.
  • it is high in protein and fiber – compare the packages of whole-wheat penne versus regular penne to see what we mean. Both protein and fiber increase satiety, which means you feel more satisfied with a smaller meal
  • it is low on the glycemic index, therefore, it is ideal for people with Type 2 diabetes or those who are more sensitive to blood sugar spikes.

There is another benefit to whole-wheat pasta. Pasta has been shunned by many dieters due to its high carbohydrate content but thanks to the satiety factor of whole-wheat pasta, you will likely end up consuming fewer carbohydrates in general than if you were eating regular pasta. The same can be said for brown rice and multigrain bread.

Fortunately, deciding to eat whole-wheat pasta and making it a regular in your eating plan is one of the best decisions you could make. Don’t doubt for a second such a simple change could make a big difference to your health and body weight.

Time And Attendance System

Time and attendance systems are designed to assist organizations to effectively manage the working hours of employees. They are a paperless system used to collect the work time of employees electronically. The systems automate and simplify timekeeping and human resource management. Time and attendance systems effectively interact with any payroll system. The system allows employees to electronically submit leave letters. They are capable of operating on various platforms for different business rules. They are used in areas such as healthcare, financial services, transportation or distribution, retail management, government, manufacturing, and hospitality.

Early on, time and attendance systems were only associated with the manufacturing or ‘blue collar’ workforce. But today, due to the impact of legislation and the influence of technology, they are used for a variety of business functions including access control, job pricing, project tracking, and employee schedules. Most systems are Web-enabled and are integrated with current Internet technology. The cost of installing a time and attendance system depends on the number of staff involved and the equipment and type of software used.

Time and attendance systems often have a Web version of the employee module, which allows workers to enter their time using a Web browser. Its flexible design runs on both PCs under Windows and UNIX workstations. Most systems are compatible with over 20 databases including Ingres, Sybase, and Oracle, and run on all major network environments, thus, providing instant access to all time and attendance functions. Time and attendance systems help companies to reduce and control costs by permitting employees to access non-critical information in a simple, secure, and safe manner.

Benefits of time and attendance systems including a reduction in error rates, and reducing unnecessary data entry. They are used for varied work schedules, hour codes, and cost structures. The systems reduce potential mistakes automatically by transferring information between company systems.

Insect Repellent Wipes Vs Insect Repellent Sprays

With the official start of summer just kicking off this last weekend, comes the often discussed debate of insect repellent sprays versus insect repellent wipes.

With the now, constant threats of West Nile Virus and Lyme disease on the rise, many individuals are staking their positions.

In addition to these primary concerns is the simple fact that bugs carry bacteria and with insect bites come bug-borne illness.

Albeit, the average illness, if you will, may only culminate into an uncomfortable rash or skin irritation. So, the idea of misting your children in a daily chemical fog may prove equally uncomfortable.

I for one, perk up like Pavlov dog when I hear the sliding screen door open any time after 5PM. This is followed by a “drill sergeant” type questioning of my children; “Where are you going?” “Did you put on bug spray?” No. “Come back in and assume the position!”

This is followed by two minutes of spraying any portions of exposed skin, behind the neck and under the shirts on the stomach and backs of my children.

They usually make a face and so do I. My face is one of smug satisfaction, that for a few short hours, I have outsmarted every mosquito in my immediate area.

My children on the other hand, walk outside in a temporary sticking mess, depending on the products we’ve used.

In the past, I’ve tried sprays, lotions and oils to keep my children from becoming a meal for mosquito’s and ticks.

Of late, I have recently become a fan for insect repellent wipes. The wipes are compact and can fit easily in my pocket or purse, so when we are not at home, there is not that verboten sense of urgency to get to our destination without the small added additional worry.

Still many of my friends agree that they would like to limit their children’s’ exposure to potentially toxic chemicals.

So I decided to take a look at the pros and cons of insect repellent sprays versus insect repellent wipes.

Here are the Pros of why you should Use an Insect Repellent Spray

• Sprays have more options including DEET, soy-based bite blockers, lemon oil and eucalyptus oil.

• Protection can last up to 90 minutes per use

• Can be used on children over 6 years old

• Can be unscented for persons with smell sensitivities

Here are the Cons of why you should hold Off on Insect Repellent Sprays

• Some natural oils like citronella and peppermint can be less effective

• Depending on the brand, you may have to re-apply every 30-90 minutes

• Some oils may be toxic if ingested accidentally via aerosol

• Sprays containing more than 30% of DEET can be toxic to children and pets

Here are the Pros of why you Use Insect Repellent Wipes

• Insect Repellent Wipes are individual wrapped. One packet usually covers a small child

• TSA friendly. You can carry wipes to a vacation destination instead of using questionable local products.

• Contains far less than 30% DEET per individual pack

• Does not spill or leak

• Can work up to 2 hours per application

Here are the Cons of why you should hold off on Insect Repellent Wipes

• Adults may require up to two wipes for full coverage

• Reapplication needed after swimming or any water sports

• Sold in smaller quantities, from 3pk to 48pks

• Not recommended for children under 2 months old

• Can cause skin irritation in certain people

So how will you personally weigh the risk of insects this summer? Will you base your decision on chemicals or the lack thereof?

Will you opt for the all-natural versions of insect repellents and re-apply often? Maybe you’ve decided to limit the time you spend outdoors this summer.

What about your summer vacation? Are mosquito’s the same everywhere? Will your current insect repellent work everywhere you are?

These are valid questions to ask yourself every time you scratch that spot on the back of your knee.

Sampling products early in the season to determine what works best for your family is a great option. If you find a spray that you like and works well for your family, you may want to find out if there is a travel size that meets federal TSA regulations, so that you can have it on vacation with you.

Even if there are no smaller sizes available, you can easily pack your favorite insect repellent in your suitcase and hope that your luggage makes it to your destination when you do.

Call me a “Nervous Nancy” but where my kids are concerned, I tend to double down on protection when outside of my usual routine.

So, my carry-on will contain insect repellent wipes as well as a bottle of our favorite repellent spray.

I simply like the convenience of “moms’ little bag of tricks” and being prepared for any eventuality, including the fact that even when traveling inside the U.S., many stores and chain don’t carry the same products.

Natural bug sprays and wipes aren’t the only nontoxic ways that you can fight back against mosquito bites and other bugs. But in this day and age, you have a lot of choices. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If you found this article helpful, please share it or leave a comment.

For example, maybe you want to go with that option of building a space that is like an oasis, perfect for regrouping after a hard day at the office. For that kind of space, the outdoor patio furniture that you should go with is something of the deep separated variety. A single club chair, with its supportive frame and cushions, is the ultimate place to take it easy, especially if you purchase a footrest to go with it that features the same design. Add a pergola or garden arbor for ambiance and shade, finishing off a space that others will be sure to be envious of others. You could also use deep seating furniture to create a great lounging area for friends with the sofa, loveseat, and table options that are available.

In addition to those outdoor furniture options that were just mentioned, there are many, many others to choose from as well. Buying good outdoor patio furniture can be tricky because you want to get something that can withstand the elements, which is where spending money comes into play. If you go the cheap route, then that's exactly what you're going to get, something that is cheap and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. So, when you are buying yours, go with the higher quality options, like something made from Teak or Redwood, even wrought iron and thick recycled plastic is a good choice.

To look into all the options that are available, just hit the Internet for some online shopping. It's a fast way to see all the choices since you do not have to drive anywhere to do it. And, when you do make a purchase, it will even be shipped right to your home.

So this year, make sure your deck, porch, or patio is ready and purchase some quality outdoor patio furniture for it. When you're relaxing in comfort and style, you will definitely be glad that you did.

Small Business Tax Questions – What Expenses Are Tax Deductible?

When starting a new small business, one of the most common questions is simply this: “What’s deductible?” It’s a great question and this article will attempt to answer it.

An expense is deductible provided it is ordinary and necessary. Ordinary means that it is an accepted expense in your particular trade or business; it is common. Obvious examples would include office rent for an attorney or fuel for a truck driver. You don’t have to think too hard to understand the idea of an “ordinary” expense.

Necessary means that the expense is helpful and appropriate for your business situation. In other words, it is needed in order for you to produce revenue. Again, there are plenty of self-evident examples. If you are a traveling salesman and you cover a four state territory, it will be necessary for you to travel throughout your territory to solicit new business and provide services to existing customers. So your travel expenses incurred in the process of doing business would be “necessary” and therefore deductible.

The “ordinary and necessary” rule provides the general guideline for determining the deductibility of an expense. To get a more specific list, a good place to turn would be the IRS small business income tax forms. Sole proprietors use Schedule C, which is filed as part of their personal income tax return (Form 1040). Partnerships use Form 1065. C corporations file Form 1120 and S corporations file Form 1120S. Limited liability companies are like a chameleon and can be taxed like any of the other four entities just mentioned; so you must know how the LLC is being treated for tax purposes in order to know which tax form to use.

Each of these tax forms provides a list of potential business expenses that may be deductible in your business, assuming you actually incurred those particular expenses. If you are looking for a basic list of deductible business expense categories, these business tax return forms are the logical place to start.

Another great resource for deductions is the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov. Here you’ll find a plethora of excellent resources for the small business owner or self-employed person. The IRS has produced a series of free publications for each of the business entities mentioned above, and each of these publications contain detailed information on a number of deductible business expenses.

For example, if you are a sole proprietor, check out Publication 334, Tax Guide for Small Business. This is written specifically for self-employed individuals who file Schedule C for their small business. C corporations, S Corporations and partnerships have similar publications. If you’re looking for free information on what’s deductible, these resources will get you started.

Automotive GPS Units – Practical Technology

Prior to the invention of automated GPS units, traveling to unknown areas had to be done through reading a map and / or asking for directions. Both methods had problems. For instance, how can one effectively read a map while driving? Map-reading is only best if there is another passenger in the car, which is not always possible. Asking for directions can also be annoying, at least if the person giving the directions does so in a way that is not as clear.

Fortunately, with the emergence of automated GPS units the process of map-reading and getting directions has never been easier as each can be done either through voice activation, touching the screen, pushing buttons or a combination. Maps pinpointing the exact location pop right up on the screen, while directions can be given through a computer-generated voice. Nothing could be easier or better. The only issue is deciding which automotive GPS unit should be purchased. This article will serve as a guide telling consumers what they should be on the lookout for when choosing automatic GPS units.

The first area of consideration when buying automotive GPS units is seeing how accurate the device is. One way to determine this is by how many channels the GPS unit has. This is because more channels means the unit will be able to communicate with a larger number of satellites, resulting in more coverage. Another way to determine the accuracy of most automotive GPS units is through how its antenna is designed. Make sure the antenna is placed in an area of the unit where it will be able to stand freely.

The next thing to think about when looking at automated GPS units is size. There are some automated GPS units that will not be portable. Onstar, which has to be installed in one of car, is an example of an automated GPS unit that can not be moved from car-to-car. Many other automotive GPS units vary in portability.

Thirdly, buyers of automated GPS units should take notice of a unit's interface. More expensive automotive GPS units will contain voice-activation and / or touch-screens, while cheaper ones can only be used through a series of buttons. If another person is in the car, using buttons is not as bad, but if only the driver can use the unit, it is important that it be as hands-free as possible. It is also important to try to get an automated GPS unit that has the capability to give directions through a computer-generated voice. Doing so is another way to ensure that the driver of the car keeps their eyes on the road and now else.

The software that the automotive automotive GPS unit uses is also critical. Most top of the line units have very good mapping software included with the unit. However, as time passes the mapping software becomes out of date. You should make sure that you automatic GPS units software is updated at least once every 6 months. Frequently there is cost for this service but if you live in fast growing urban environment then it is a good investment. Your automated GPS unit is only as good as its operating and mapping software.

When looking at automated GPS units one should consider: ease of use, accuracy, size and interface. Keeping these elements in mind ensures that a buyer obtains an automated GPS unit that is reliable and will best assist them when they are on the road.

Type 2 Diabetes Treatment – What Is The Treatment For Diabetes

Diabetes is the inability of the body to process sugar in the blood. This has many implications for the person with diabetes. Firstly, sugar in the blood is the primary source of energy that allows the body to function. It also means that high levels of sugar in the blood change the consistency of the blood and can have major complications if left untreated, such as diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and is characterized by insulin resistance. Insulin is the hormone that reduces the level of sugar in the blood. A person with type 2 diabetes is resistant to the action of insulin and needs continuous treatment. This article will discuss what is the treatment for diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes.

Treating type 2 diabetes is often seen as a three stage approach depending on the tolerance to insulin.

The first stage revolves around education. Most people that acquire type 2 diabetes need to be re-educated on a number of things, including eating and exercise habits, controlling their weight and the lifestyle changes that will occur as a result of the condition.

They will have to learn that the diet should combine of 55-60% carbohydrates. That the best carbohydrates should be complex carbohydrates like pasta, porridge and potatoes.

They should restrict their protein intake to around 30% and their fat intake to 15% of their total energy intake.

They need to eat regular meals, about 6 a day but in smaller quantities than before they had diabetes.

They should aim to lose weight as this will make their body more responsive to insulin and minimize the diabetic complications and the need for medication.

If the patient can implement a diabetic diet, lose weight and exercise regularly they may not need to take medication.

Otherwise the second stage involves taking medication to make the body more responsive to insulin.

For obese patients the drug metformin is prescribed as it sensitizes the tissues to insulin. For lean people, sulfonylureas is used as it promotes the insulin secretion. If the condition deteriorates both drugs in combination may be prescribed.

The final stage of treatment is where insulin is needed as a replacement therapy. Depending on the individual patient, soluble, fast acting or prolonged acting insulin may be used. Ultimately, the patient will have to take insulin via an injection and take some form of medication that acts as a hypoglycemic agent.

The aim of early type 2 diabetic treatment is to change the person's lifestyle so that they are not dependent on medication or insulin replacement therapy however this is not always possible, especially with older people.

Type 2 Diabetes – Reasons To Avoid Tanning Beds If You Are a Diabetic

Some people tan very easily in the sun after only a short period of time. Others tend to burn. Many people use tanning salons and beds to develop an artificial tan due to lack of time, or for personal preference.

Here are a few reasons to consider before tanning if you suffer from Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes:

1. Firstly, you need to understand what tanning actually does. In simple terms, it makes the color of your skin go darker than it already is. However, people have different skin types. Naturally, different races have skin types that may be affected differently. Caucasian people may have fair complexions or slightly darker ones. Skin may be oily or dry.

All of these factors have to be considered before deciding to get a tan, whether natural or artificial. Tanning beds can be very dangerous for diabetics because your whole body is subjected to intense UV rays. Even though it’s a controlled environment, if you have sores of any kind, they can become worse.

2. Many people with diabetes have some degree of nerve damage and won’t be able to feel if they are getting burned by the rays… until it’s too late. You can easily become dehydrated and that means your body won’t be able to process insulin and food as well as it normally could.

Tanning beds are less likely to cause sunburn than the real sun but it still can happen. It means your body has to focus on healing and, therefore, has a reduced capacity to fight off other problems such as infections and diseases.

It’s vital you speak to the tanning consultant to work out the best settings for the bed if you insist on tanning. Set a specific turn off time and ask the consultant to check on you as well, in case you’re not aware of problems.

3. Tanning can cause skin cancer, eye damage and premature aging if you don’t take adequate precautions. It’s also important not to tan too often as it can become addictive and then you may just ignore the health risks and have more problems as a result.

4. It’s also possible you may develop a rash if you are allergic to the ultraviolet light. There are plenty of ways to treat it, but it’s a strong indicator you should not use a tanning bed.

These are only a few of the reasons to avoid tanning if you suffer from diabetes. If you have any concerns at all, speak to your doctor first. You should also mention to the tanning consultant you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes… then proper safety measures can be taken.

Type 2 Diabetes – Fish Oil And Diabetes!

We have all heard how fish oil is touted as being a great benefit to a healthy heart. But what does it mean for diabetics? Actually, there is more of a connection than you might think.

Type 2 diabetes often progresses to other complications such as heart disease or stroke. One of the main causes is cholesterol, or more importantly, LDL or "bad" cholesterol. Instead of heading to the liver, this cholester similar to stockpile in artery walls, which, in turn causes a disruption of blood flow. Since fish oil has been linked to lower this cholesterol, it works towards a stronger, healthier heart. At the same time, it reduces LDL. Both are great side benefits for Type 2 diabetics; blood fat control and blood-thinning properties makes fish oil a real plus in treating people with heart disease, or in trying to prevent it. Cardiac benefits include:

  • reducing triglycerides and inflammation,
  • stabilizing the heart rhythm,
  • reducing the incidence of sudden cardiac death, and
  • reducing blood clots

Since Type 2 diabetes involves high blood sugar levels this is reflected by high triglycerides and low HDL, or "good" cholesterol. When insulin in the blood is not deal with in the proper manner, diabetics suffer. Due to insulin resistance, fat and liver cells do not respond properly to insulin so fat levels in the blood rise. Thus, the cycle continues.

Fish oil not only does an amazing job of raising HDL and lowering LDL, but at the same time it is unknowingly providing substantive support against harmful effects of Type 2 diabetes. Anytime you can work to help your heart and your overall cardiovascular system you are providing a way of helping to monitor your diabetes also.

But fish oil is not only good for the heart, it also improves overall blood flow through the body. Moving blood means improved circulation, and bad or slow circulation is a prime side effect of diabetes. Plus, improved circulation means that nutrients and vitamins are being deposited more efficiently to the areas they need to go.

Fish oil also gives amazing help to the eyes. In fact, it is one of the better-known benefits, besides from being heart healthy. Since poor eyesight, blurred vision and other eye problems are complications associated with Type 2 diabetes, adding fish oil will naturally work to improve these areas. This includes a reduction in the progress of macular degeneration.

Another positive effect of fish oil is that it lowers blood pressure. Eliminating or preventing hypertension is, in itself, something that can not only make a Type 2 diabetic's life substantially better, but it can also literally eradicate the potential of developing other complications down the road.

From lowering blood pressure, to improving vision and circulation, creating a healthy heart and cardiovascular system and raising good cholesterol, fish oil is worth its weight in gold to diabetics.

How Much Force Can Our Bones Handle Before They Break

You have known all along that your bones are the strongest part of your body. As they are assigned to give your body a structure, to hold your posture up and to protect your internal organs, your bones have to maintain their strength at all times. Of course, you cannot prevent external and unexpected circumstances from damaging your bones. But as much as you can, you can prevent it from happening.

Probably one of the best ways which you can protect your bones is to know just how much force they are capable of handling before they reach their breaking point. Your bones are really strong. In fact sometimes they are even considered as stronger than steel. But in principle, if you divide your bones by cubic inch sizes each can handle the weight of any object equivalent to 19,000 lbs or approximately 8,626 kilos.

However, considering force requires a different understanding. As most experts say, your bones can handle weight in various ways depending on the force with which they are delivered. The more force you apply to a bone, the easier it is to break it.

In some studies, it was found out that bones can handle about 3,300 Newton of force if thrown into a rib and up to 4,000 Newton if released onto the femur. The ribs can take a smaller amount of force because they are relatively thinner than the femur.

But these are only estimates of the force that can subject you to a fracture. It does not mean that these calculations are the least amount of force that your bones can handle. In fact, they are simply estimates in between because it still depends on the density and strength of your bones. Of course, your bones can handle less than 3,300 Newton of force if they are weaker and with lesser density. Therefore, you have to check first the strength of your bones to prevent overexertion and possible fractures.

It is great to know the estimates of how much force your bones can handle before they reach their breaking point. It is suggested that you consult with your doctor or osteopath first to ensure that your bones are in healthy condition. They may be able to prescribe exercises to maintain bone strength or alert you to possible future conditions that may present problems. Your trusted osteopath is the right person you should talk regarding all bone problems.

Configure Exchange E-Mail Server Reverse DNS and MX Records Correctly

If DNS is setup incorrectly, over time your mail server IP will be added to blacklists. Nowadays most E-Mail servers have some kind of spam protection service which in turn means that all your inbound mail will be blocked if you do happen to be listed on a spam blacklist.

In this article I will describe how to correctly configure your MX and reverse DNS records for your mail server. This article is based on an Exchange 2003/2007 server but every other messaging server will follow the same principle.

Assigning an IP address

Starting from the bottom up the first thing you need to do is assign a static external IP address to the internal private address of your mail server. You will need to apply these rules on your firewall to port forward SMTP (port 25) and NAT an external IP address to the internal address of the server.

Something that a lot of administrators forget to do or check is to set the outgoing NAT rule to use the same external IP address created for the inbound rule to the mail server. If this isn’t set, Reverse DNS will not match and in turn your mail server will be listed on blacklists. If your firewall rules are setup correctly the IP address listed on this page should be the same IP address you mapped to the internal private IP address of the mail server.

Create the MX records for your mail server

For the purpose of this example, listed below are all the details of my mail server to help you understand what you need to do.

External IP: 87.22.1.22

E-Mail Domain: domain.com

You will need to be an administrative contact for your External DNS provider for your domain to make these changes. In most cases this can be done through an online control panel through your DNS provider. Failing that on the phone or via E-Mail.

1. The first thing we need to do is create an A record to point to the external IP address mapped on your firewall to the mail server. The host A record can be called any thing but is commonly called “mail”. In our example we will create “mail.domain.com” to point to IP address “87.22.1.22”

2. Next we will create an MX record to point to the newly created A record of our mail server.

Within your DNS control panel select “add MX record”. Make sure that the host address is the root domain name in our case “domain.com”

Set the FQDN as the A record we just created which in our case is “mail.domain.com”.

The lowest property is the most preferred but in our example we will set the priority as 10.

Use NSlookup to check DNS and MX records are applied

It can take up to 48 hours for DNS to propagate but in most cases 12-24 hours. To check our DNS entries are applied and correct we can use nslookup.

1. Open a CMD prompt and type nslookup

2. Type set type=mx

3. Type the domain name which in our case is domain.com.

In our example the output should read as follows if correctly setup:

> domain.com

Non-authoritative answer:

domain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.domain.com

mail.domain.com internet address = 87.22.1.22

Configure Reverse DNS

Reverse DNS is used to verify that the mail server is who it says it is. The recipients mail server will do a reverse lookup to make sure that the IP address of the mail A or host record in DNS is the same as the IP address it is communicating with. Only 1 RDNS entry can be present per IP address.

To do this you will need to contact your ISP to make this entry. You will not be able to do this in your DNS control panel unless your ISP also host your DNS and give you the functionality to add your own RDNS records.

In our case we would contact our ISP and advise that we would like to create an RDNS entry for our IP address 87.22.1.22 which would resolve too mail.domain.com.

Verify Reverse DNS

Again it can take up to 48 hours for DNS to propagate but in most cases 12-24 hours. To verify that the RDNS entries have been added and are correct do the following:

1. Open a CMD prompt.

2. Type Ping -a 87.22.1.22 (This is the external IP address for your mail server. In our case we use our external IP address stated above)

If RDNS is configured correctly the following output will be shown:

SMTP Banner

Every time a mail server establishes a connection with your mail server it shows its SMTP banner. This banner must be resolvable on the internet and best practice is to have it as your mail host/A record.

Configure SMTP banner Exchange 2003

1. Open Exchange system manager.

2. Expand your administrative group (“First administrative group” by default).

3. Expand Servers.

4. Expand YourServerName.

5. Expand Protocals container.

6. Select SMTP container.

7. On the right window, right click the Default SMTP virtual Server (Or the name you set your SMTP Server) and

select Properties.

8. Select the Delivery Tab.

9. Click the Advanced button.

10. Under the Fully-qualified domain name type mail.domain.com (The A/Host record you created in DNS for your mail server)

11. Click OK and OK again to accept the changes

Configure SMTP banner Exchange 2007/2010

1. Open the Exchange management console.

2. Select the Organisation Configuration container.

3. Select Hub Transport container.

4. On the right select the Send Connectors tab.

5. Right click your send connector and select properties.

6. On the General tab under the Set the FQDN this connector will… type the A record domain name you created. Which in our case is mail.domain.com. Click OK.

7. Under the Server Configuration container click the Hub Transport container.

8. In the Right window Select the properties of the Receive Connector under Receive Connectors tab.

9. On the General tab under the Set the FQDN this connector will… type the A record domain name you created. Which in our case is mail.domain.com. Click OK

To verify these changes we can use telnet to view the output upon establishing a connection on port 25 to our mail server. Use the following steps to do this:

1. Open a CMD prompt

2. Type Telnet mail.domain.com 25.

The output you see should look something like this and contain your A record of your mail server:

220 mail.domain.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Sun, 28 Feb 2

010 17:51:20 +0000

If you use an edge server or a SPAM filter appliance like a Barracuda the SMTP banner will have to be set on this device/server.

Check to see if your mail server is on spam lists and/or an open relay

A great website to use to check your MX records, RDNS, check if your mail server is an open relay and check to see if you are listed on spam lists is www.mxtoolbox.com. This is a great site and one to keep in your favourites.

Following these guide lines will successfully and correctly configure mail routing to and from your mail server. The next step is too secure and ensure your mail server is not an open relay. I will be writing a separate article dedicated to this in the near future.

How to Make It As a Fitness Model!

So You Wanna Be a Fitness Model?

People that follow my stuff know I generally write about nutrition, supplements, training, and other topics that are more science based than subjective topics, such as what is covered in this article. I decided to shuck my science geek persona, and write on a topic I know will be helpful to thousands of would be and want to be fitness models.

As well a known “hard core” science based no BS writer, why I am writing what some will perceive as a “fluff” article? Over the years I have gotten hundreds, perhaps thousands, of gals that ask me via email, letters, or in person “how do I become a fitness model Will? You have been in the business a long time, surly you of all people should know.” I get this from newbies and I get this from women that have been at it a while but have been unable to “break in” effectively.

The fact is, I have been in the fitness, health, and bodybuilding biz a long time, and though I am known as a science and nutrition based “guru” type, I have trained many a fitness athlete, and judged fitness and figure/bikini shows for the NPC, Fitness America, Fitness USA, and other federations as well as given marketing and business advice to all sorts of athletes, including fitness models. So, it’s not as far fetched as it might seem that I am going to use this space to cover a non scientific topic, which is, how one goes about being a fitness model.

This article will be useful to both experienced and novice types looking to “break in” to the biz. If you are already a professional and successful fitness model, I am sure you may still glean some useful information from this article.

First the bad news, there is no one way to become a successful fitness model. There is no single path or magic secret. There are however some key things a person can do to greatly improve their chances of “making it” in the fitness biz as a model, and perhaps using that success as a launching pad to greater things, such as movies, TV, etc.

Several of the top fitness models (Trish Stratus and Vicki Pratt come to mind but there are many others) have gone onto careers in entertainment of all kinds. Bottom line, though there is no magic secret to being successful as a fitness model, this article will be about as close to a blueprint for success as you will find.

“Do I need to compete?”

This is a question I get asked all the time and it’s not an easy one to answer. In fact, the answer is (drum roll) yes and no. The person has to deicide why they are competing in the first place to answer that question. For example, do you need to compete if your goal is to be a successful fitness model?

The answer is no. Many of today’s well-known fitness models have never competed, or they competed in a few small shows and it was clearly not part of their success as fitness models. However, competing does have its potential uses.

One of them is exposure. At the upper level shows, there will often be editors, publishers, photographers, supplement company owners, and other business people. So, competing can improve your exposure. Also, competing can make sense if you are trying to build a business that is related to your competing or will benefit from you winning a show.

For example, say you have a private training gym you are trying to build. Sure, having the title of say Ms Fitness America, or winning the NPC Nationals and being an IFBB pro, will help your reputation and the notoriety of your business. There are many scenarios were it would help to have won a show for a business or other endeavors.

On the other hand, it must be realized that winning a show does not in any way guarantee success in the business end (and it really is a business) of being a fitness model. The phone wont ring off the hook with big offers for contracts. Also, it’s very important to realize that it’s common that the 4th or 6th or 8th place finisher in a fitness or figure show will get more press than the winner. Why? Though the winner might have what it took to win that show, it’s often other gals the editor, publishers, supplement companies etc, feel is more marketable.

I have seen it many times where the winner was shocked to find she didn’t get nearly the attention she expected and other girls who placed lower have gotten attention in the form of photos shoots, magazine coverage, etc. Something to keep in mind when you ask yourself the important question “do I need to compete and if so, why am I competing?” Answer that question, and you will know the answer to the heading of this section. Winning a title of some sort can be a stepping stone, but it is not in itself any guarantee of success in the fitness industry. It’s like a college degree; it’s what you do with it.

Now. If you compete for the fun of it, then by all means go for it, but the above is focusing on competing as it relates to the business aspect of being a fitness model.

Right body, wrong federation?

Ok, so after reading the above you have decided you are going to compete, or will compete again. If you don’t plan to compete, you can skip this section. The biggest mistake I see here is so many gals have the right body for the wrong federation. Each federation has its own judging criteria and a competitor will do poorly simply because they didn’t bother to research which show would be best suited for them.

I will give you a perfect real world example of this. Recently I judged a show whose criteria for the figure round was the women should be more on the curvy softer side with some tone, vs. being more muscular and athletic with less bodyfat that other federations might allow. At this show one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen came out. She was very proportional, great muscle tone, lean, and athletically shaped with narrow hips and waist and wider shoulders. How did she do at this show? She didn’t even place in the top ten!

Why? Because she was not what we were instructed to look for and didn’t fit the criteria. After the show I informed her that she looked great, but this may not the federation for her. I told her she had much more of an NPC type body, where a little more muscle, athletic build, and less bodyfat is rewarded.

The following week I was judging an NPC fitness, figure, and bodybuilding show and there she was. How did she do? She won the entire show with all judges voting her number one unanimously.

Conversely, if your body type tends to be more rounded and toned, but with a little more bodyfat, wider (but not fat!) hips, you may be better off competing in say the Fitness America Pageants. If you are going to compete:

(1) find out exactly what the judging criteria is for that federation and

(2) go see those shows as a spectator for several different federations and see which one your physique, style, etc will fit into best.

(3) You have to decide if you truly have the athletic abilities to compete in a fitness competition (which requires a routine) or a figure/bikini competition.

I often see women who would do well in a figure show but really don’t have the athletic abilities do the routines required to be competitive with other athletes in the show. Some shows will allow you to do both competitions and some wont.

Networking 101: dos and don’ts…

In so many respects, this is the area that will make or break you in any business, and yet, people in the fitness industry do an amazingly poor job at it. If you don’t network and market yourself properly, you can pretty much forget about having any real success as a fitness model, or a success in virtually any business. For the sake of space, we will stick to fitness.

When I first started out, I was a self marketing machine. I could be found at every show I thought might be an opportunity, walking the isles of trade shows, bodybuilding, shows, fitness show, and others. I gave out a zillion cards and I took a million home with me, and followed up on each and every one. I went to as many industry related meetings, outings, parties, etc. as I could get into. I now have the reputation and experience in the industry that I don’t have to go to such a show unless I feel like it, or have meetings, but they were quite helpful in the beginning.

I am always amazed at the number of fitness models who contact me who have never even been to the Arnold Classic Fitness Weekend, or the Mr. Olympia, or the trade shows like the NNFA Expo West and others. If you want to make it in the fitness business you sure as hell had better treat it like a business.

I have seen many a pretty girl who wants to be a fitness model who thinks if they stand there looking pretty long enough, someone is going to offer to put their face on the cover of a magazine. News flash, there are millions of beautiful women out there and to be noticed, you have to hussle to get that business like everyone else by networking your butt off, or having a good agent (if you can afford such a thing) who is doing it for you.

Pick a few major industry shows to attend (some of which were mentioned above) and go to them every year. Have a plan of attack of exactly how you plan to market yourself and network. Many fitness models, bodybuilders, etc see a show as one big party. If that’s you, then have fun at the party, but don’t think you are really marketing yourself as a serous business person or athlete.

Another thing that always amazes me is the number of fitness models who either have no business cards, or have some cards they printed up on their bubble jet printer at home! They ask me to help them or what ever and I say “give me your card” and they look at me like “I am so pretty I should not need a card you fool.” This attitude turns off editors, photographers, writers, and industry people faster then if they found out you were really a transvestite. Don’t do it. For every pretty girl out there who thinks the world owes them a favor, there are 100 who are ready to act like professionals.

Ever wonder why some fitness model you know is doing better than you are even though you know you are prettier than her? That may be why…never ever go to a show to network without good cards, bios, and professionally done head and body shots you can give to said editors, publishers, photographers, industry types, etc. Don’t stand around looking pretty assuming they will find you, find them first and introduce yourself. And of course it should go without saying you should be in good condition and have something of a tan to look your best.

You want to go to the shows and party? Fine, but do it in private after the work is done and don’t make a fool out of yourself at some industry sponsored get together. Hell, I was virtually poured into a cab at last years Arnold Classic after going to a sushi place with some well know industry types and companies owners (you know who you are!) but at least no one saw me! We had our own little private get together after the show to let loose.

Let me give you one final real world example of how NOT to market yourself. Last year I was on retainer as a consultant to a mid sized supplement company. The owner of the company asked me if I knew a couple of fitness model types that could work his booth for a trade show. In fact, he requested “unknowns, some new faces people had not seen yet but had real potential to grow with the company.” I went and found him two such gals I thought fit the bill.

He offered to pay their flights, room, and food plus a thousand dollars each for the days work. The two girls were told to be at the booth 9am sharp. The night before at the hotel, I saw the two girls getting in a cab at 11pm or so dressed to kill, clearly on their way out to party. The next day they showed up at the booth an hour and a half late and hung over! What was the result of this? (1) it embarrassed me to no end as I had recommended them to the company owner (2) they would never get work from that company again (3) they would never get any work from me again and (4) they would not get a reference from either of us for other jobs.

I see this type of thing all the time in the fitness biz, and it’s not limited to fitness models. Amazingly, a few weeks after the show they emailed me and the company owner wanting to know when their next job would be! Amazing…

Who loves you baby?

If there is one universal truth, it’s that the camera either loves you or it does not. Any professional photographers will tell you this. For some unknown reason, some people are very photogenic and some are not. Truth be known, there are some well known fitness models (who shall remain nameless as they would probably smack me the next time they saw me) who are not all that attractive in person. It’s just that the camera loves them and they are very photogenic, but not terribly pretty in person.

Conversely, I have seen the reverse many times; a girl who is much better looking in person than in photographs. Such is the fate of the person who wants to be a model of any kind, including a fitness model. If you find you are not very photogenic, keep working with different photographers until you find one that really captures you well and pay that photographer handsomely!

Now, to be bluntly honest, there are also some want to be fitness models who are not “unphotogenic”, they’re just “fugly”! There are some people out there who have no business trying to be fitness models. It does not make them bad people, it just means they need to snap out of their delusions and find a profession they are better suited for, like radio personality….

“How do I get in the magazines?”

This section sort of incorporates everything I have covered above, and adds in a few additional strategies. For example, as I mentioned before, competing in fitness shows and or figure/bikini shows can increase your exposure, thus getting the attention of some magazine publisher or photographer. Networking correctly at the various trade shows may also have the same effect, and of course having a good portfolio done by a photographer that really captures your look, a good web site, etc., will all increase your potential for getting into the magazines, or getting ad work, and so on.

However, all of these strategies are still somewhat passive versus active in my opinion. It’s still the fitness model waiting to be “discovered.” As far as I am concerned, waiting is for bus stops and pregnancy tests. Success waits for no man…or woman as the case me be. So, after all the above advice is taken into consideration as having an added effect to getting you magazine coverage, what else can be done?

For one thing, you should read and be familiar with all the magazines you want to be in so you know who is who and what the style of the different magazines are. I can tell you right now, if say the Editor-in-Chief of a good sized fitness or bodybuilding publications and says “hi, I am the Bob Smith what’s your name?” and the fitness model has no idea who Bob Smith is, Bob will not take kindly to that. Why should he? You should know who the major players are in the publications you want to be seen in. He is doing you the favor, not the other way around. You should know who the major players are and actively seek them out, don’t wait for them to “discover” you.

If you look at the masthead inside any magazine, it will tell you who the publisher is, who the Editor-in-Chief is and so forth. The mailing address for that magazine, and often the web site and email, can also be found. What is to stop you from looking up those names and mailing them your pictures and resume directly? Nothing, that’s what. If you see a photo spread you think is really well done, what is to stop you from finding out who the photographer is and contacting them directly and sending them your pics? Nothing, that’s what.

My point being, you want a get a break in the business, make the break, don’t sit there thinking it’s looking for you, because it’s not. Be proactive, not reactive! Luck is the residue of design. Be successful by design. As my older brother used to say to me as a kid when I told him I was too scared to ask out a pretty girl “what’s the worst that can happen Will? All she can say is no.” That’s the worst that can happen to you also.

Beware of web idiots, schlubs, morons, perverts, scum bags, and sleazoids!

This part is sort of self-explanatory but worth mentioning. As with all industries that deal in entertainment based media (e.g., television, theater, modeling, etc.), the fitness industry attracts its far share of web idiots, schlubs, morons, perverts, scum bags, and sleazoids, to name just a few.

There is also the class of person known as the schmoe, but we will leave that for another place and time. Point is you want to meet the right people while not getting involved with that group of worthless types who will only drag you down, delay you, or just flat out screw you up and over.

For example, a guy comes up and says he wants to “shoot you” for the magazines, but what do you really know of this guy? He has a camera and some business cards, so that makes him a photographer right? Wrong! If someone want to shoot you and they are not a well-known name (and you should know who the well known photographers are because you researched that already!), find out who they are. Do they have references you can call? Girls you can contact he has shot before and were happy with the work? What magazines has he published in? Does he do it professionally or as a hobby? That type of thing.

Another thing I see is the big web scam. I’m amazed how many girls get scammed by these web idiots. Lesson here is you get what you pay for, so when some person wants to build you a web site for free, you are getting what you pay for. Yes, there is good money to be made on the ‘net, and the net can be great for marketing yourself and making contacts, but most of it’s a scam.

You are better off paying a good web designer and web master who has experience with other fitness model types and has references you can talk to. I can’t tell you the number of girls who have been screwed over by some internet thing that went to hell, like the “fan” who volunteers to build a free web site and either runs off with any money made from the site or puts their picks on porn sites and any number of other things that made them regret like hell ever agreeing to the site in the first place.

Clearly, I can’t go down the list of all the possible pitfalls of the web idiots, schlubs, morons, perverts, scum bags, and sleazoids out there to be found in the entertainment business, but you get the idea. Be careful!

Conclusion.

Well that pretty much concludes my down and dirty guide to the basics of “making it” as a fitness model. Of course there are tons of business related issues I could cover and tricks I could give, but the above is the best advice you are going to find in s small space and will do more for you-if properly followed-than you may realize.

Good luck and see you in the magazines!

Type 2 Diabetes – When Should You Stop Eating Before Bedtime?

It’s 10pm…do you know where your diabetes snacks are? For many Type 2 diabetics, nighttime hunger pangs are a hair-pulling experience. While your neighbor may be able to raid his cupboard for whatever he fancies at the moment, you’re forced to dole out portions and count carbs.

While your diabetes diet doesn’t drastically change when Jay Leno comes on, the timing of your meals do. Eat too soon before bed, and you might as well add the pounds to your midsection yourself. Go to bed hungry, and you may wake up with the dreaded dawn phenomenon… the unexpected rise in blood sugar that oftentimes takes place when diabetics go to bed after a significant fast.

These tips will help answer the classic diabetes head-scratcher: “When should I stop eating before bedtime?”

1. Free Foods Don’t Matter: So-called free foods, such as celery, diet soda, and sugar-free Jell-O don’t count for or against you at night. Because they contain virtually no carbs (or calories), you can eat these before bedtime if you’d like… but be sure not to expect them to count against the dawn phenomenon.

On the other hand, if you’ve already had a carb or calorie-heavy day, free foods are a perfect way to quench your grumbling belly and avoid a sugar rush.

2. Study History: It’s impossible for anyone to hand you an exact minute by minute account of when it’s OK to eat before bedtime and when it’s off limits. That’s why most diabetes experts recommend not just checking your blood sugar levels often… but writing them down.

With this information at hand, you can answer the question: what happened last time I had 2 handfuls of peanuts and an apple 2 hours before bed? This is the only way to actually know whether your bedtime snack gets the green light or not.

It’s not a perfect science, but it will give you a much more accurate way of determining things than relying on generic guidelines.

3. Eat If You’re Hypo: It doesn’t matter what time it is… if your blood sugar levels are low, especially if you’re on insulin, eat something. Many diabetics go to bed hungry with hypoglycemia because they were nervous about eating before bed. This isn’t wise.

4. About 3 Hours Before Bed, Eat Something: Having a nighttime snack about 2 to 3 hours before bed is as specific as anyone can get. Think about it this way: if you had dinner at 6pm, went to bed at 11pm, and woke up at 7:30Am, that’s more than 12 hours without eating a thing!

This will inevitably cause your body to shoot out internal stores of glucose, potentially making you hyperglycemic during the night.

Be sure to account for a small, protein-rich bedtime snack, like chicken and greens or nuts and veggies into your diet.

With these guidelines, bedtime eating should be as simple and straightforward as the rest of the day.

How To Give Your Woman A No-Touch Orgasm By Phone Sex (3 PROVEN Techniques!)

Women can have NO-TOUCH orgasms! They can experience this by having you talk to them (with no touching) by texting them, instant messaging them, or even PHONE SEX! Once you learn the technique you can use it with any type of medium. Learn this PROVEN METHOD today!

This is an exciting technique and concept. You can use parts or all of this technique in so many ways!

1st Tip. Make her feel comfortable.

Too many people, even women, start in too far, too fast. There’s a time to be crude and use vivid language and a time to wait. Start out with some momentum and make her feel comfortable.

Then, once she knows that you respect her. Nobody wants to totally be thought of as a sex object. The woman could tell you that she doesn’t want phone sex, yet love it when you do it in the right way.

The point is to start slowly.

2nd Tip. Getting her hot!

Now start at her mouth (actually her head) and head south. Ask her about her greatest unfulfilled fantasy or a sex game she’d like to try. The more you can get her to talk, the more you’ll turn her on.

If she asks what you’d like to do with her, then describe a very romantic scene. Give her details and set the scene with smells, feelings, taste, and texture.

Describe in detail, how her mouth would taste, and how you’ll enjoy french kissing her. Then ask her if she’s getting turned or – or damp.

3rd Tip. Driving her crazy!

Now, start with a detailed description of what you’d do with her breasts. Tell her you’d tease her breasts for a long time. Ask if her breasts fell swollen and ask her if her nipples are hard.

Tell her you’d want to give her a breast orgasm. You’d cup them, tease her nipples, suck them, and then put as much of her breast in your mouth as you could. Describe how you’d suck her breasts so fast and hard.

Now, tell her how you’d kiss her inner thighs and tease her clit with your tongue. Tell her how she’d have to arch her back and reach your tongue and finger. Describe how you’d drive your tongue inside her and reach her g-spot. Tell her how hard she’d shake and convulse.

Give her as much detail as you can, including feelings. You should have a great time and a new experience!

Type 2 Diabetes – The Cholesterol and Diabetes Connection

A diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes is not to be taken lightly. It can be a fearsome disorder, as excess sugar in the bloodstream is extremely damaging to your body. While diabetes affects blood vessels and how they transport nutrients throughout your body, it also has another substantial effect. Type 2 diabetes has the dual duty of lowering your "good" cholesterol level while simultaneously raising your "bad" cholesterol level.

When there is too much of the "bad" cholesterol or LDL, it has the tendency to attach itself to the walls of arteries. Here, it forms plaque which not only imposes blood flow but allows pressure to build or, as it is more commonly known, high blood pressure. It also has the nasty ability to lead to some other ailments, the most notably of which is heart disease.

But that is not the only action taking place. At the same time the LDL levels continue to increase, the body is systematically lowering HDL, or "good" cholesterol levels. Since HDL is necessary for getting rid of LDL, it paves the way for LDL cholesterol levels to continue to escalate. Your bad cholesterol level goes up, good cholesterol level comes down!

Since uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes has such a unique effect on cholesterol levels, it is imperative cholesterol be kept in check. This is more than just elevated cholesterol readings at a doctor's appointment. This affects atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, which is a result of the plaque buildup mentioned earlier.

Anytime you impede blood flow, you are asking for major trouble. It may start out as shortness of breath or slight chest pain and discomfort, but eventually it will transpire into something no one wants to consider: a heart attack! Or, along the same lines, you could have a stroke instead. In either case, cholesterol is something that you do not want to ignore.

Anyone with high cholesterol should heed these warning signs, but this is especially significant for those who also have Type 2 diabetes. The best way to combat cholesterol is to prevent it from having the chance to become elevated in the first place. That means a comprehensive plan to keep it down to more manageable levels.

Prevention is a two-fold plan. It involves exercise and diet. For individuals who are in their proper weight range, they should be exercising at least 30 minutes per day, 5 to 6 time a week. Overweight people should increase the time to between 60 and 90 minutes. Exercise has an impact on several factors that are part of Type 2 diabetes … blood pressure, triglyceride levels, and HDL cholesterol levels. Many studies have shown regular exercise improvements:

  • blood pressure,
  • lowers LDL cholesterol levels,
  • raises HDL cholesterol levels, and
  • lowers triglyceride levels.

All these improvements are helpful in reducing the risk of heart disease.

Cutting out fatty foods and limiting alcohol are also crucial. The most effective diets are those that eliminate animal products altogether. Many studies have revealed following this sort of diet cut LDL cholesterol by more than 20 percent. Incorporating high amounts of fiber in your diet are also part of the overall plan to help combat heart disease.

Type 2 Diabetes – An Immediate Risk for Diabetics: Dizziness

Feeling dizzy is never a good sensation. Unfortunately, both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics have to encounter this irritating, and sometimes debilitating symptom as a result of their condition. However, when diabetics take the proper measures, they greatly reduce the possibility of having to go through one of these episodes.

Whenever you are talking about dizziness, you are referring to your body’s equilibrium becoming affected. Within the body, the central nervous system is the major controlling factor of its equilibrium. This system is made up of many different parts, from the inner ears and the eyes, to skin and joints. So when you take a close look at the central nervous system of a diabetic, you can see how it can become easily affected by diabetes.

When a diabetic becomes dizzy, it means some aspect of their central nervous system has been thrown off. This is called cellular degeneration and can be accomplished by any number of factors. Some of the most common factors are:

  • hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar levels, and
  • hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels.

Regardless of how the reaction is formed, the end result is it manifests into varying levels of blood sugar which is interpreted as a dizzy feeling.

With hyperglycemia, the body is not able to use glucose properly due to low insulin levels. Although the brain does not need insulin in order to use glucose, the rest of the body does. Sugar levels rapidly build in the blood which results in metabolic responses being initiated. Some of these responses directly affect balance. The only treatment is to increase insulin levels.

In a case of hypoglycemia, there is an insufficient level of glucose in the blood. This is usually as a result of not enough food, or not taking the prescribed anti-diabetes medications at the right time. One of the areas this drop in glucose registers is in the brain. The brain responds to this glucose deficit in the only way it knows how… with dizziness. Due to the extreme danger of this condition, sugar has to be introduced into the body as quickly as possible. This is done either by glucose tablets, injection, or foods rich in glucose or sugar.

Even though the dizziness may dissipate after a treatment has been rendered, it is best to notify your doctor as soon as possible.

Know when to call your doctor. Make sure you are aware of the point you should consider your blood sugar levels to be dangerously high or dangerously low. Ask about the normal range for you, and request guidelines as to when you should call. It’s possible your doctor may even need to examine you to verify the exact cause of the attack.

Freelance Writing: How to Become Super Successful

Freelance writing is how many writers earn money.

Writing books is great too, but the income may not be consistent enough to live on, or it may not be enough.

That’s why many writers turn to freelance writing to make sure that they can earn a full-time income from their writing.

The ‘trick’ to working this way is to make sure you have plenty of projects to work on and that means finding enough writing markets.

And to help you I’m going to tell you about three types of freelance writing you can start doing straight away and where to find them.

  1. Writing for Magazines and Trade Journals. This is probably the easiest type of freelance writing to do. You look through magazines and trade journals, look up their submission processes online to see if they accept freelance work and what their rates are, and then send in a pitch. You can also find these types of writing markets online by doing a quick Google search of “magazine writing submissions” or “writers’ guidelines” or “write for us” or something similar. Alternatively, sign up for writing newsletters from bloggers who share lists of current writing markets to their subscribers.
  2. Writing regular blog posts. Once you start looking you’ll probably also find regular work writing for blogs and other websites. There are millions of sites online and many of them are looking for regular writers. If you can find a few of these they can provide you with a consistent income.
  3. Writing competitions. Many writing competitions are highly paid. And even if you don’t win, you still have a piece of unpublished work that you can re-slant for another submission somewhere else at a later date. I recently told my subscribers about a scriptwriting competition for a 60-minute stage play with the winner receiving ï¿¡3,000 British Pounds plus a ï¿¡3,000 advance against 8% of the box office takings. Not bad for a 60-page stage play (one page = one minute approx.).

So even if you’ve never thought about freelance writing before, don’t dismiss it because it’s a great way to earn income because as I’ve shown you, even writing competitions can pay well.

And not only is it freelancing a great way to earn money, but writing regularly and working to deadlines really helps you to create a daily writing habit that can go on to help you for the rest of your writing career.

Taking Control of Penis Health – Type 2 Diabetes and Sensitivity Issues

Diabetes can cause a wide range of health problems in men, including penile issues. As Jenny De Jesus, RN, CDE, a diabetes educator at the Beth Israel Medical Center explains, “Uncontrolled diabetes can cause damage in blood vessels and nerves.” These problems can therefore reduce the ability to experience sexual pleasure, leading to a lackluster sex life and causing in some cases issues with self-esteem and confidence in the bedroom. Understanding how diabetes affects penis health and taking steps to prevent problems can lead to increased sexual satisfaction and a happier life.

Sensitivity loss

Unregulated type 2 diabetes can cause damage to the nervous system, resulting in a condition known as diabetic neuropathy. This condition interferes with the ability of the body’s neural network to send signals to and from the brain regarding the sensation of sexual pleasure and the physiological response that leads to erections, orgasm and release of sperm.

In addition, being overweight – a condition which is largely responsible for the incidence of type 2 diabetes – can constrict the blood vessels of the penis, creating numbness and loss of penile sensitivity.

Keeping glucose levels under control is a major factor in protecting penis sensitivity and preserving the ability to enjoy sex. Supporting penis nerve health with nutrients such as the amino acid acetyl L carnitine may help to reduce loss of penis sensitivity and stimulate the regeneration of damaged nerve tissue.

Circulatory problems

As with the nervous system, the circulatory system can be negatively affected by diabetes. When cardiovascular health is compromised, it may be more difficult for the body to deliver sufficient blood flow to the penis to achieve and maintain an erection. This can lead to sexual dysfunction, as well as further compromising nerve health due to lack of oxygenation of the nerve cells.

Increased risk of infection

Along with many other negative health effects, diabetes can reduce the body’s ability to fight off infections. Men with diabetes are especially prone to penis problems such as yeast infections, bacterial infections and fungal overgrowth. While it may not be possible to prevent every infection from occurring, supporting immune health with nutrients such as vitamin C and treating the area with natural anti-bacterials – vitamin A, for example – may help to deter infections that can cause soreness, swelling, painful intercourse and other unpleasant side effects.

Avoiding diabetes-related penis problems

Diabetes specialists recommend a number of interventions for preventing the problems related to poorly controlled diabetes:

1. Monitor glucose levels as directed by a health care provider and ensure blood sugar is under control.

2. Follow medical dietary recommendations and avoid foods that are high in fats, sugars and cholesterol.

3. Exercise often. Many of the problems caused by diabetes are related to obesity or being overweight, including loss of sensitivity, circulatory problems and cardiovascular health, so keeping body weight to a healthy level is always recommended.

4. Take medications as directed. If the side effects of medications include penis problems, talk to a health care professional about possible alternatives or methods to alleviate the detrimental effects on sexual function.

5. Keep the penis well-supplied with vital nutrients for sexual health. For instance, vitamin C supports healthy circulatory function, while vitamin A helps to fight off infection. Amino acids such as acetyl L carnitine promote nerve tissue health, while alpha lipoic acid stimulates increased blood flow. Using a specialized penis health formula (most health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) can help to ensure that these nutrients are delivered where they are needed to promote optimum sexual function in men who are affected by type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Food List – Healthy Eating for Type 2 Diabetes

What is a diabetes food list?

Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is a life-changing event. One of the main challenges is making changes in your diet.

One of the first questions that almost every patient diagnosed with type 2 diabetes asks is “What am I supposed to eat now?”

What you eat is a very important part of maintaining blood sugars in the target range. If a type 2 diabetic has no idea what to eat, being able to control blood sugar levels will be near impossible.

The goal in treating type 2 diabetes successfully is to make lifestyle changes.

My strategy when explaining diet is to keep it simple.

Your mindset should be one of adapting changes that enhance your lifestyle. Find something that works well for you.

There are a lot of websites out there on the Internet touting one diet or another. Some even speak about being able to “reverse type 2 diabetes.”

Recently, the American Diabetes Association made some changes that make it easier for a newly diagnosed diabetic to get into action.

Do diabetes food lists really work?

In the past there was a lot of talk about ‘diabetes food lists’. Diabetes food lists were thought of as restrictive. It’s not likely that a patient is going to follow such a diet for a long time.

The fact is that the foods on a diabetes food list will work for anyone who is committed to a healthy lifestyle.

A diabetes food list helps people living with diabetes understand foods that help maintain the blood sugars within the target range. They will also help to reduce hyperglycemia.

There is a ton of information out there about what makes up a diabetes food list. It’s OK to follow these. But I recommend just using them as a guideline that will help you to adapt healthy food choices.

Here are some of the current recommendations on how to eat healthy while living with type 2 diabetes:

Create your plate

The American Diabetes Association recently did away with the diabetes food pyramid and adapted the “create your plate.” This is a strategy that makes it less overwhelming for someone just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to get straight into action planning healthy meals.

So here are the steps to create a plate:

  • Take a standard sized dinner plate.
  • Divide it into three sections. Start by dividing in half. Then divide one of the halves in two. There you have three sections. Since it is divided into three sections, one section will be larger.
  • On the larger section of the plate, place you non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, greens, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes etc.
  • On one of the smaller sections, place your starchy foods like rice (preferably brown rice), grains, corn, pasta, beans etc.
  • On the other small section place a serving of meat or a meat substitute such as turkey, chicken, fish etc.
  • On the side you may add an 8 oz. serving of milk. Or if you are lactose intolerant like a number of adults are, you can have some almond, soy or coconut milk. Water also works just fine.
  • Then a small serving of fruit. Preferably fresh fruit.

You have created your plate

Carbohydrate Counting

One of the important strategies for a person living with type 2 diabetes is to know the amount of sugars they are eating. This will help to reduce the complication of hyperglycemia.

Up till the mid 1990s, carbohydrates were touted as being bad for anyone with diabetes. Now we know that to not entirely be the case. Naturally everything, including carbohydrates, must be eaten in moderation.

A great tool is carbohydrate counting or “carb counting” as it is popularly called.

The strategy is to round up the total amount of carbohydrates that you are allowed in a day. And divide this equally among your meals – including snacks.

One of the advantages of carbohydrate counting is that it reduces the tendency for the blood sugar levels to fluctuate. This helps to prevent huge swings in insulin levels that could lead to fluctuations in blood sugar levels.

If you plan to use carbohydrate counting exclusively, then you may need the assistance of a nutritionist. They will help to customize a meal plan for you.

A good place to start is between 45-60 grams of carbohydrates per day.

Remember that carbohydrates are in starchy foods like breads, grains and pasta. They are also in fruits and vegetables, milk products.

Reading food labels makes it easier to measure how much carbohydrates you are getting in a meal.

What are Diabetes Super Foods?

The American Diabetes Association has a list of ten super foods that it recommends. I love the way that certain foods get tagged as “super foods.”

Just as I like to point out, these “super foods” should be a part of the diet of anyone looking to live healthy.

The added benefit for a diabetic is that these foods help to give extra nutrients and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. In addition they also contain powerful antioxidants.

These super foods help to not only control blood sugar levels. But also maintain the health of the cell membranes.

So here are the top ten super foods that everyone should be eating:

  • Berries of all kinds (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries etc.)
  • Dark leafy vegetables– such as spinach, kale and asparagus
  • Beans– all varieties. Beans are high in fiber and low in glycemic index
  • Fish particularly fish that is rich in omega 3 sources such as salmon, herring, sardines
  • Fat free milk & yoghurt
  • Nuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Whole grains that have not been processed
  • Citrus fruits

This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the healthy ways to eat as a diabetic.

It is my hope that this article will answer the question, ‘What am I supposed to eat?’

Executive Summary: Will That Be in the First Person or Third Person?

If I had my way, every executive summary would be in first person. But then the world hasn’t gotten around to seeing it my way, yet.

Whether you write your executive summary in the first person or third person usually depends on your relationship with the client. It’s like this. The larger the organization, the more likely the third person will be used – a more formal tone. The more familiar you are with the client, and the better the relationship, there’s a good chance your executive summary can be written in the first person and be more informal and conversational. For entrepreneurs, this tends to be truer with small business clients with whom they have worked and built relationships.

But – keep this in mind. Whether you use the first person or the third person in your executive summary, the choice is relationship driven. If you have a great relationship with the senior management of a major organization, you might use the first person. That is – I, me, we, us. However, if the executive summary will be seen by others who might not appreciate the low key, warm, first person language you’re likely to use, or don’t have a relationship with you, stick to the third person; he/she, him/her, them/they, it/it’s.

It’s up to you to decide whether using the first person in your executive summary meets the client’s comfort level. For example, you might say to the client “We suggest you take this course of action. If you agree, I’ll set up an appointment with your people then we can go over the next steps.” That’s first person, and informal.

Generally speaking you’re not going to or shouldn’t use the first person when providing an executive summary to any organization you don’t know; i.e., government, major corporations, NGOs. They’re likely to be shocked if you start to use I or We. They won’t expect it and the problem you face is that they will throw out any great proposal simply because of the language you’ve used.

Are there exceptions? Sure there are. Some organizations are just different. They’re progressive, creative, more open to alternate approaches. A sports team, an entertainment company, even a political organization may be longing to see something out of the ordinary. If your proposal is unique then your executive summary needs to be unique. It doesn’t have to follow a traditional third person format.

My criteria in developing an executive summary, besides it being a summary of your proposal, are that it be accessible. What do I mean by accessible, and how does that connect to using the first or third person? I’ll bet you’ve read a book or paper that you thought had great content but turned out to be a difficult read. By accessible, I mean that the writing is easy to follow, easy to grasp – and that complex issues are effectively explained. Books, papers, proposals often get shunted aside if they’re not accessible. People can’t be bothered to read through them, me included. My point is that I believe writing in the first person is generally more accessible. You can write – in your own voice. It’s very natural, tends to be warmer and therefore more approachable. It may even be better understood.

I said at the beginning that the world hadn’t come round yet to my way of thinking about using the first person. That’s not entirely true, thanks to the impact of social media. Social media is turning relationship building upside down. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter are generating relationships that could never have existed in the past. These new connections are driving inbound marketing, much of it through blogs, and blogs are invariably written in the first person. This relationship building through social media is creating a more informal world. That in turn is affecting how we communicate in other areas. So don’t expect an executive summary to be as third person rigid as in the past.

But what if you must stick with a formal third person in responding to that RFP or other proposal, yet you’d like to give some personality to your proposal? You may not be able to use the executive summary, but guess what. Your cover letter does give you that option. It’s from you, it’s in the first person, it can distinguish you, your unique qualities, what you’d really like the client to know about you and your company.

First person or third person executive summary? Ask yourself what kind of relationship you have, or don’t have, with the client. You can always play it safe using the third person. If you can be more personal and informal, and the relationship with the client justifies it, then consider using the first person.

Successful Study – How to Tame Your Wandering Mind – Part 2 – Variety

In part one I deal with some basic impediments to productive study sessions. What I want to concentrate on in this article however, is the actual study you do, and how you do it. Your mindset is very important.

Approach the work with an attitude of getting the work done as quickly and efficiently as possible. With this in mind, think of the work you need to complete, set yourself a target and get stuck in. Always have a small goal in mind and a time frame.

Reward yourself with a short break when you achieve one of these goals and then proceed to the next one.

Be aware of your attentiveness. Variety in the type of study you do can help a lot to maintain your concentration. If you have some reading to do, some learning to do, maybe some writing or problem solving all within the same topic that you have to cover, then switching from one task to another when you find you are bored or inattentive can help your mind stay fresh and avoid ineffective study. That way you'll still be learning, and finishing work that needs to be done, without drifting aimlessly.

Start for example with some speed reading, get through as much as you can, asking yourself frequently to recall the main points of what you have read.

When you can not keep this up productively anymore, go find an exercise from the text to reinvine what you were doing, or brainstorm some points for an essay you will have to write on the topic, or start writing under one of the headings from a previous brainstorming session, or draw a diagram, any other task that you need to work on that can be used to give your mind a break without actually leaving the table while still getting work done that needs to be done.

Then, after a short while get back to the reading again, if that's the most urgent part of your study. Get the idea?

Sometimes, if you're on a roll, and you are getting really involved and absorbed in your work, you may not need to change tasks. Only use it when you find you can not concentrate or you do not feel you are getting the most from your efforts. And make sure you do not waste time working on a task that does not really need to be done. But keep on working, until you've achieved your goal for that study period. If this does not work, then maybe you really need a rest. But make sure you decide what time you'll get back to work, and stick to it!

The Difference Between AutoCAD and SolidWorks

SolidWorks is what we call a “parametric” solid modeller used for 3-D design. Parametric means that the dimensions can have relationships between one another and can be changed at any point during the design process to automatically alter the solid part and any related documentation (blueprint). AutoCAD, however, is primarily a 2-D design tool with some, but limited 3-D capabilities. It is very simple compared to any parametric solid modeller (although 3D is improved in AutoCAD 2007). Autodesk (the manufacturer of AutoCAD) makes a product that is nearly identical to SolidWorks, called Inventor, which is a parametric program for design of solid parts and assemblies.

SolidWorks is a 3D mechanical CAD (computer-aided design) program that runs on Microsoft Windows. SolidWorks files use the Microsoft Structured storage file format. This means that there is various files embedded within each SLDDRW (drawing files), SLDPRT (part files), SLDASM (assembly files), with preview bitmaps and metadata sub-files. Various third-party tools can be used to extract these sub-files, although the sub-files in many cases use proprietary binary file formats. SolidWorks is a parasolid-based solid modeller, and utilizes a parametric feature-based approach to create models and assemblies. Parameters refer to restrictions which values determine the shape or geometry of the model. Parameters can be either numeric, such as line lengths or circle diameters, or geometric, such as tangent, parallel, concentric, horizontal or vertical. Numeric parameters can be associated with each other through the use of relations, which allows them to capture design intent.

AutoCAD is, just like SolidWorks, a Computer Aided Design software application for 2-D and 3-D design and drafting. AutoCAD was one of the first CAD programs to run on personal or home computers, notably the IBM personal computer. At that time, most other CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or mini-computers that were connected to a graphics computer terminal for each user. Early releases of AutoCAD used basic entities such as lines, poly-lines, circles, arcs, and text to ultimately construct more complex objects. AutoCAD has since started to support custom objects through its C++ Application Programming Interface (API).

Modern AutoCAD includes a full set of basic solid modelling and 3-D tools. With the release of AutoCAD 2007 improved 3D modelling saw the light, which means better navigation when working in three dimensions. It also became easier to edit 3-D models. The mental ray engine was included in rendering and thus it was now possible to do quality renderings. AutoCAD 2010 introduced parametric functionality and network modelling. At this moment, AutoCAD only runs under Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. AutoCAD can run on an emulator or compatibility layer like VM-ware Workstation or Wine, although various performance issues can arise if you work with 3-D objects or large drawings.

Choosing a system that works for you depends solely on the type of work you want to do. Many experts say that SolidWorks is more effective when working on 3 dimensional designs and that AutoCAD is the way to go for 2 dimensional design.

Type 2 Diabetes and Healthy Living – Creating A Weekly Routine

Do you have a routine to take care of your health? This should be an easy question to answer, as either you do or you don’t. Are you trying to implement a routine? Many think it is easier said than done but realistically, it’s not that hard, especially when you choose to think rationally about it.

In other words, missing one day of working out when you should have gone to the gym does not mean you have failed. And a routine is not something you do temporarily, as is often the case with weight loss. A 3-month plan can be useful, but it is not ideal. What is perfect are long-term changes – particularly those without a timeline. The best way to make these changes is by creating and adopting a weekly routine.

How should you get started? First, you need to consider what is most important to you. Consider the current standing of your health…

  • are you overweight?
  • have you been diagnosed as having Type 2 diabetes, or is your blood sugar well above a normal range?
  • how are your triglyceride and cholesterol levels?
  • do you have hypertension?

These are a few conditions you need to take into account. You will have to see your doctor and have blood tests to get all the answers. You need to visit your doctor at the very least once a year, twice, or more if there are problems with your health. Next, you need to determine what you would like to improve. It is easy to get started if you are overweight or have Type 2 diabetes, as the goals will be apparent. It can be a little bit more complicated otherwise, but it is still likely nutrition and exercise will be critical areas requiring your attention.

Regarding exercise, find a routine you can quickly implement and don’t have to think twice about. For many people, it is as comfortable as waking up 1 to 1.5 hours earlier than usual to make it to the gym. Get your workout done early in your day, so you do not dread working out later in the evening or getting sidetracked. In the beginning, you could workout on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This ensures you will have more rest days than active days in the week. You should have no excuse not to stick with it then.

For healthy eating, you can start by cooking your meals. If you feel the need to save time, prepare large portions that last you the whole week. Make sure you are not eating processed meals or fast foods on your weekdays. If eating out is part of your social life you cannot avoid, leave it for the weekend.

What is crucial in creating a weekly routine is getting started with changes you can sustain. Cooking and exercising is not only beneficial but necessary and are the foundations of a healthy habit. As for when you should get started? You already know the answer.

Type 2 Diabetes – 10 Tips to Help Women Beat Bacterial Vaginosis!

Bacterial infections of the vagina are especially troublesome in women who have Type 2 diabetes. Sugar in all forms feeds yeast, and diabetics accumulate sugar not just in the bloodstream but also in vaginal secretions. Getting rid of yeast infections for good requires controlling blood sugar levels but it also involves paying attention to a number of risk factors including:

1. Staying dry: The vulva sweats more than any other area on a woman’s body. Tight, restrictive, nonabsorbent clothing to the skin in this area is an invitation to chafing and infection, especially if a woman exercises in Lycra tights.

2. Deodorants: Bubble baths, toilet paper, and sanitary pads and tampons that contain deodorants and scents can cause irritation that gives yeast and bacteria an easy way to ‘establish’ or ‘germinate’ in the lining of the vagina.

3. Emotional stress: Some women respond to aggression with infection. Vaginal infections are also more common during stress caused by the premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

4. Birth control pills: The wrong amount of progestin in oral contraceptives can predispose the user to vaginosis. Switching brands may help.

5. Repeated intercourse: Seminal fluid is highly alkaline, and makes the vagina alkaline for about eight hours. When the vagina stays alkaline for an extended period of time, protective bacteria may die out and infectious bacteria may take over.

6. Douching: It isn’t necessary to clean the vagina by douching, which can wash away protective. microorganisms, and can actually drive the infection higher up the reproductive tract.

7. Yeast breads: Consuming yeast breads has been associated with an increased risk of infection.

8. Panty hose: Ill-fitting panty hose may increase bacterial growth.

9. Oral sex: Receiving oral sex may increase the risk of yeast infections.

10.Partner treatment: Women’s sexual partners also need to receive treatment for the microorganisms that cause vaginosis.

High blood sugar levels can definitely aggravate vaginosis, which in turn will compromise your sex life.

Signs of infection include:

  • foul smelling vaginal discharge which may be brown or deep yellow in color, with the consistency of cottage cheese
  • you will also notice itching and burning

If you are suffering from any kind of vaginal infection, it is important to be evaluated by a gynecologist and be tested for the specific organism causing the infection. This way you can then be treated with the right medication.

When women have Type 2 diabetes, however, the single most important consideration in keeping vaginal infections under control is diet. It really is very simple: no sugar, no white flour, no ‘white’ or ‘irish’ potatoes, and no baked goods made with yeast. And it is also very helpful to keep blood sugar levels normal all the time.

Rare PEZ Dispensers – Is Yours Worth Anything?

Did you know that there are actually rare PEZ dispensers that are worth a lot of money? There are hundreds of PEZ dispensers that have been produced, including ones for popular cartoons and even movies. Take into account the vast number of PEZ candy dispensers out there, with the different variations of each one, and you can easily see how finding out which ones are valuable may be a tough task. If you want to know if your PEZ dispenser is worth anything, here are a few tips to help you figure it out. Of course, you could also use these tips to find rare PEZ dispensers worth investing in. Lots of people are actually avid collectors!

1. Does it have feet? One of the ways you can tell if you have one of the rare PEZ dispensers is to look and see if there are “feet”. At the bottom of your dispenser, is there a part that helps it stand up right? If not, it was probably made before 1987. Rare dispensers that are older like that are worth more.

2. How it is packaged (if at all) will also play a role in how valuable it is. MOMC stands for Mint on Mint Card. This is the most valuable, as it has the card and has not been scratched, bent or damaged in any way. Next valuable is MOC, which stands for Mint on Card. This means it’s on cardboard and is covered with a plastic blister. After that is MIB, which means Mint in Bag. MIB means your PEZ

dispenser is in a cellophane bag. The least valuable is a one that is not packaged at all.

3. The older ones are usually more valuable. Check the patent number on your PEZ dispenser. There will be a lot of numbers, but just go by the first two. For example 2,604,331 would be shortened to just 2.6 There are five different “groups” it could fall in:

• 2.6 – If it falls in this group, then it is from 1952

• 3.4 – If it falls in this group, then it is from 1968

• 3.9 – If it falls in this group, then it is from 1976

• 4.9 – If it falls in this group, then it is from 1990

Of course, if you’re serious about finding the most valuable ones you could invest in a price guide. They are very helpful, because it can be a challenge to figure out if your dispenser is worth a lot of money. There are different variations of dispensers. For instance, a Batman dispenser could sell for over $175… but not just any Batman one. It has to be the right one. The one that sells for that has a gray base and a soft head. It is also one of those ones with no feet like we talked about earlier. So if your Batman PEZ dispenser has feet, a black base and head and is MOC – you’re actually only going to get a few bucks for it. PEZ dispenser price guides will be able to help you identify each one’s worth much easier.

Six Types of Human Values

Human beings need different things to live in this world. However, nothing in this world is available free of cost. Everything has a price and one has to pay the right price to get ones need satisfied. However, we value the things based on our needs and the needs depends on the basis of our value system.

First, there are basic necessities like food, water, air, shelter, and clothing without which survival of the body itself is not possible. However, once these necessities are satisfied, man moves to satisfy his higher needs like the social needs, security needs or the need of self-actualization.

However, every person does not follow the same path as his path would depend on the inherent values of the person. These inherent values are acquired by the man by virtue of his nature and also by his nurture. The effect of the family, society, nation and individual makes every person unique as he develops a unique set of values. These values decide the priority and lifestyle of the person. The values make the personality of the person and decide the growth of the individual, family, society, nation and the humanity.

1. Individualistic Values

The most inherent value of a person is individualistic which means valuing the self over anything else in the world. This is also the most natural value which is inherent in every animal of the world. The animals live for themselves without much bothering about the other animals. The only exception would be the mother animal which takes care of her child animal till the child grows up sufficiently to support itself.

The modern world has been moving more and more towards individualistic values where the interest of the individual is considered to be the most “right” and needs to be protected over everything else. The individualistic value support freedom as it believes that every person has the right to decide what is good for him.

Every child starts with individualistic values and he wants everything in the world for the self and wants everyone to serve him. When the need of the child is not satisfied, he cries and do everything to get the need satisfied.

2. Family Values

The human specie may be the most powerful specie in the earth but it is also true that human specie is also the weakest specie. A human child does not learn to even walk for one year. If the child of the man is allowed to survive of its own, it just can not survive. The support of family is must for the growth of every human child. It is for this reason that human specie over the year has invented the concept of family that lives like one unit and supports a new born child till it becomes strong enough to support itself.

The concept of family has given rise to the family value where a family is considered to be the basic unit of the society instead of the individual. The family has right and power to control the other member of the family. In a family system, the members of the family divide their work in a way that all members perform complementary functions rather than performing same functions. For example, father earns the livelihood and protects the family being the strongest member of the family. The mother takes care of the family by cooking food, cleaning house and rearing children. The children on their part get these benefits free of cost from their parents but they have the family obligation to provide the same benefits to their children. Thus the family ensures the continuity of the value and tradition of the family.

In the family system, the interest of each member of the family is protected through an unwritten law as love and trust alone govern the management of a family. The parents do not seek any personal benefit when they give something to their children. The children too recognize the contributions made by the parents in building their lives and they not only pass on the same benefits to their own children but also take care of their parents when they grow old.

The entire system of family value is maintained by tradition and trust.

However, when family values are strong, it results in the reduction of individual freedom and decline in the individual values. Every person has to think for the family first and the self as secondary. This often kills the creativity of the man as he is never free to think as an individual.

3. Professional Values

A society is made of not only families which are natural but also by origination which are artificially created to fulfill a specific requirement of the society. The government is one of the most important organizations which had been created to bring order in the society. The government is further divided into different departments like police, revenue, defense etc which are needed to keep the country united and protect it from external aggression. There are many other organizations which are run by private persons or bodies which produce goods and provide service to the people of the nation and the world.

Every person has to join an origination to earn his livelihood and to contribute to the society. These organizations are designed to serve a specialized function of the society and thus need a set of value to keep all members of the organization motivated and united.

Thus man develops a set of values due to his profession. The values of a police official are different than the values of a judge or a politician. Each profession has its own set of values which often contradict the values of another profession. Yet these values are necessary to keep the professionals united and deliver what is expected from them.

4. National Values

The world today is divided into a number of countries and each country is sovereign and independent. However, in recent years the countries have started behaving like family members as the independence is gradually being replaced by interdependence in the globalize economies. If China is emerging as the manufacturing hub of the world, India has become the outsourcing and out-shoring hub of the world from where the different services are being provided to the world. Arab world is producing oil for the world and USA has taken the leadership role in creation of the knowledge and the Information Technology for the world. Each country is gradually becoming specialist in some specific task and getting the rest of the requirements fulfilled from the other countries of the world.

Thus, just like individuals and families have to compete with and complement each other for their survival in a society, each nation has to compete with and complement with the other countries of the world. In order to make the nation stronger, certain types of values need to be cultivated in their citizen which makes the country not made of millions or billions of individuals or families but like one family.

By virtue of independence, every country develops certain values which keep on evolving with time. The values of a nation represent its tradition, history and experiences of its people since its creation. The values of India and China are many thousands of years old while the values of the newly created nations like USA, Israel, Australia, and Pakistan are quite new.

The national values are often codified in their laws that seek to grant equality and justice to all its citizens. There, is wide diversity in these laws as the requirement of each country is different. The violation of national values is treated criminal acts which are punished by the State. Thus the countries with strong national values enforce their laws very severely as they keep the interest of the country over the interest of the individual.

5. Moral Values

While the legal values of a country or society is documented and enforced, these are insufficient for the smooth functioning of the state. The ideal state is one where the State does not have to enforce any law as the citizens voluntarily follow the laws of the land. However, this rarely happens since all the State laws are drafted by the people who are in power or those who have influence on powerful people. These powerful people ensure that laws are drafted in their favour of few rather than in the favour of the masses. Thus over a period of time, the enforcement of laws creates a class of people who are extremely powerful and rich while the majority population live the life of haplessness and poverty.

However, the disparity and injustice created by law is largely reduced due to the prevalence of the moral values in the society which need not to be codified in the statute books. Yet the moral values are passed on from one generation to another by tradition. For example, the sanctity of the institution of marriage in India has kept the divorce rate to the minimum despite having the provision of divorce in the law books like any other western country. The moral laws are enforced jointly by the society. As every man desires to be loved and respected by the society, the moral values are often more powerful to keep the man on the right path than the legal enforcement.

6. Spiritual Values

All values adopted by men create exclusivity in human beings as these values are different for every society and indeed for every man. The values are thus the source of conflicts in the world as every person or nation believes strongly in their values as right. Yet all these values are non-permanent and transient which changes with time and space. The values of the present generation are not same as the value of the previous generation.

Yet there is some ingredient in all values that never changes. It has remained same in long years of human evolution. These values are eternal as they never change. Therefore, often people call such values as spiritual or divine as it never dies and its origin too is not known.

These are the spiritual values.

The spiritual values are often attributed to God and called divine. The spiritual values include love, compassion, justice, truth etc. It is the nature of the man to imbibe these values irrespective of his religion, race, culture or nationality. These values are so universal that all human beings seem to understand it without being taught.

The spiritual values unite all human beings on this world. It is due to these spiritual values that we want justice and can not see injustice in this world. The feelings of love and compassion cut across all barriers of religion, race and nationalities. The spiritual values can not be eliminated from man and these are universal.

The Conflict of Values

No person can have only one set of values and all human beings are governed by the combination of all values. However, the dominating value in every person is different which arises due to the birth in a particular family, culture, religion or nationality. The values also change with the age of the person as the same person transforms from individual to a family man. When a person grows up and earns his living, he has to work in some profession where his professional values are developed. The national values too get ingrained in the person due to the common value shared by the citizens. However, as the men grow older, they tend to become spiritual and develop spiritual values. Thus all six values are always prevalent in every society that keeps the society moving and united.

The 7 Biggest Mistakes Most New Daycare Owners Make – And How to Avoid Them!

What does it take to be successful in child care?

Obviously, you should have a deep & passionate desire to take care of children, a huge amount of patience, and the ability to juggle several tasks at once (such as warming a bottle while helping toddlers with an art project).

It also helps if you have a separate space in your home, such as a finished basement, where you can run your child care business.

But as if that isn’t enough, there are many things that a successful home daycare owner needs to be good at besides caring for children. Honestly, it can be quite daunting.

Things like getting paid on time from parents, writing solid policies & contracts, marketing your business to new potential clients, obtaining the right insurance policy, understanding record-keeping and how it affects your taxes, and overall, just getting started in a manner that will optimize success.

To help you get started more successfully, here are seven of the biggest, costliest mistakes women make when starting their own home-based child care business, and how to avoid them.

BIG MISTAKE #1: Not doing the proper research on the child care market in your town or city.

This is a crucial step that many new child care business owners miss, usually because they’re not sure how to go about it. Or they may think that it’s not really necessary to do the research, because they don’t understand how it could impact them.

After all, it’s just a small home-based business, right? Why do you need to do all that extra work up-front?

The goal here is not to spend weeks or months completing some huge market research project that you’re not ever going to use.

I’m talking about spending a few hours over the next few days, calling around (or maybe visiting some other child care businesses) and asking key questions.

Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. My neighbor Mary, who runs a child care business in her home, discovered a couple things about our local market that helped her create a more profitable business. The first thing was, our town has ½-day Kindergarten, not full-day. By talking to other Moms in our town, Mary found there was a need in our town for “before-and-after care”, that is someone who could watch Kindergarteners & older kids before and after school. She structured her daycare to fill this need. All she had to do was make sure the buses were able to pick up & drop off these kids at her home, and she was able to start taking kids.

So what you want to uncover, when you do your upfront research, is a “pocket of unfulfilled need” in terms of child care. You don’t need it to be a huge pocket, but something unique about your business that will bring you customers who have that need.

Other examples of this are:

– offering second or third shift care if you have large companies in your town who employ people on evening or overnight shifts

– offering bilingual care or special languages, such as sign language for babies

– offering special meals (such as organic or vegetarian) if you live in a town where that would be considered desirable (like Boulder, Colorado or a similar college town)

Again, you are asking key questions and trying to uncover an unfulfilled need in your town or city. You can begin by calling your local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency (CCR&R), your local elementary schools, talking to neighbors and friends, and visiting other child care businesses in your town. You can even call other home child care businesses and talk to these women about what they are seeing in the market. Usually, women in child care help each other out by forming friendships and partnerships, so don’t be intimidated.

By taking the time to do the research, you will gain a huge advantage by understanding your market and how you can be successful within that market.

BIG MISTAKE #2: Not getting the right liability protection for you and your business.

If you want to be able to sleep easy at night and not worry about getting sued, you’ll need to be properly covered. You need the real scoop on what type of insurance to buy, and how much it should cost, so you don’t overpay.

Many new child care business owners make the mistake of thinking that their homeowner’s policy is enough to cover them if there’s a problem. But the truth is, that policy usually doesn’t provide enough protection, nor the right kind of protection you need for special situations that a daycare owner can face.

An example of this situation would be if your house had a power outage, and you had to close temporarily due to the loss of electricity. If you had a business liability policy with coverage for “business income interruption”, you would be covered by your policy and you would still get that income.

Likewise, if you were sued by a parent for some situation, your policy would cover you in most cases.

Surprisingly, a business liability policy for a home daycare is not that expensive, and is well worth the investment (in my opinion). These type of policies usually cost $30 to $40 per month. Is that worth a good night’s sleep?

BIG MISTAKE #3: Not charging the right fees.

Do you know how to find out what other child care homes and centers are charging? Most new daycare owners literally leave money on the table by not setting their rates properly. You’ll get short-changed by charging too little, and if you charge too much, you won’t get any clients!

So how do you go about figuring out what to charge? This is a similar process as doing the upfront research in your town…it’s simply a matter of making some phone calls or visits to other child care businesses and setting you prices appropriately.

Many new family daycare owners charge the same weekly rate for each child, regardless of the child’s age. However, if you talk to centers in your town, most of them charge the highest rate for infants, and the lowest rate for older kids (pre-K and older). Many parents are used to this type of pricing structure.

So depending on the ages of kids that you can accept, if you charge a bit more for infants and young toddlers, you may find that your income will be a bit higher than a flat-rate for all ages. You’ll have to look at your individual scenario and choose what’s best for you.

For example, let’s say that according to your state, and the ages of your own children, you can accept 1 infant, 3 young toddlers (15-24 months), and 2 older toddlers (3-4 year olds). If you charge $120 per week as a flat rate, you would have a weekly income of $720.

If, however, you charged a bit more for infants ($135/week), and young toddlers ($125/week) and less for older toddlers ($115/week), your weekly income with this scenario would be $740. That amounts to an extra $80 per month, or an extra $1,040 per year.

Small adjustments like these in your price, if it makes sense based on your local area, can make a difference in your take-home profits at the end of the day.

BIG MISTAKE #4: Not covering yourself with a proper daycare policy handbook and contract.

Okay, this is a really big one. You need to have a well-written contract for your parents, and you need a comprehensive policy handbook. If you use your contract and policy handbook properly, you can literally save yourself thousands of dollars of lost income (and countless hours of headaches!).

So what’s the difference between a contract and a policy?

A contract is a binding legal agreement between two people. If you agree to care for a child and the child’s parent agrees to pay you for that care, you’ve made a verbal contract. If you put the contract in writing, it becomes a written contract.

There are 5 key elements of a child care contract: the names of the parties, the hours of operation, the termination procedure (that is, how either party may terminate the agreement), terms of payment (including rates, due dates, and extra fees), and the signatures of the parties. Be specific and clear with your wording.

A policy handbook is longer and more detailed than a contract. It should contain all the rules that state how you will care for the children, how you’ll handle specific kinds of situations, and how you run your business. For example, you should include your vacation & sick day policies, how you handle behavior issues & discipline, and how the children will be fed.

It’s a good idea to require a signature page at the end of your policy handbook, where the parent agrees that he or she has read the entire handbook and agrees to abide by the policies you’ve laid out.

You need to have both documents in writing. (If you need actual examples that you can copy & edit to fit your business, they are provided in my Daycare Success System…more about that later).

BIG MISTAKE #5: Not using the best ways to market your business to future customers.

Let’s face it, you may not be a marketing and advertising whiz, but you need easy and low-cost ways to get the word out and bring in new customers.

We’ve all heard that the best advertising is word-of-mouth. That’s after you’ve gotten started and your clients recommend you to their friends and neighbors.

But what about when you first open your doors, and you have no proven track record?

Fortunately, there are lots of ways you can get the word out about your new child care business, and most of them won’t cost you much money. Here are 4 marketing ideas to get you started.

Marketing Tip #1: Register with the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Office in Your Area.

This is the very first thing you should do to get your name out there, and it should be done prior to opening your doors. The website is located at: www.childcareaware.org

Then enter your ZIP Code in the search field and you will receive the contact information for your nearest CCR&R office. You can also call them toll-free at (800) 424-2246.

As of December 2007, in order to be registered with most CCR&R’s, you do not need to be state-licensed or certified. However, they may have special requirements to be listed, based on your state.

For example, in Ohio, they request that solo family daycare providers have a maximum of 6 children at any time, and no more than 3 children under the age of 2. If there is more than one caregiver in the home/facility, the numbers can be higher. These rules vary by state, so be sure to call your local CCR&R branch to confirm your rules.

Once you register with your CCR&R, they will provide your contact information, along with any special information pertaining to your daycare, to parents seeking child care….for free!

Marketing Tip #2: Contact All Elementary Schools on Your Bus Line and/or in Your Community.

Most schools maintain a list of Childcare Providers, which they provide to parents upon request. Ask to have your name and phone number added to their Provider list.

Marketing Tip #3: Verbally Communicate to Everyone You Know.

Tell everyone you know that you are providing child care and ask them if they know anyone who is seeking childcare in your area. Make an announcement at your church, and at all other groups to which you belong. If you don’t belong to any community groups, join some! You’re an entrepreneur now, it’s time to start networking!

This may be your strongest source for enrolling daycare children. Most parents prefer to leave their children with a provider that was recommended by a friend, neighbor, coworker or family member.

Marketing Tip #4: Place Announcements or Small Ads in Community Newsletters.

Ask every organization you know and/or belong to such as a Church, Play Group, or Community Group, if you can place an announcement in their Newsletter.

If you know a community group, church, and/or business professional that mails out a newsletter, ask them to advertise your business for the local residents on their database. In your advertisement, focus on the unique features of your business and the benefits that children and parents will receive from being enrolled with you.

Remember, this is just the tip of the iceberg. When you learn these easy and inexpensive (or free) methods to bring in new leads, you’ll have a full and profitable daycare center and you’ll establish an ongoing relationship with your parent-clients that will have them raving about you to their friends and family!

Now let’s get back to the 7 Biggest Mistakes and how you can avoid them.

BIG MISTAKE #6: Not utilizing the tons of free resources in your local area, including sources of grant money.

Many new daycare or preschool owners don’t know about the local resources available to them, and how to navigate the waters of state, regional, and local government agencies.

With so many organizations and websites out there, it can be really tough to figure out where to go and who to ask, if you don’t know where to begin.

The best place to start is with your state. Every state in the U.S. has an agency within their state government that sets the rules for family child care providers. This agency is usually called something like the Department of Child & Family Services (DCFS), or the Department of Job & Family Services (DJFS) and they all have websites.

(If you are in Canada or another country, you probably have a similar office in your government).

Simply go to your state’s website (such as http://www.Illinois.gov) and look for the appropriate department, or type “child care” in the search box.

The website should contain phone numbers for the Child Care contact person in your state. Call them on the phone and inquire about your state’s rules and what they recommend for people who are just getting started in family child care.

Most counties also have a child care office that helps people at the county level. Ask your state contact person how to find help for your specific county. Then, contact your county rep and ask the following questions (these are also good questions to ask your state rep):

– What do you need to know that’s specific rules or regulations for your county?

– What training are you required to take before you open your doors?

– What kind of ongoing training / learning is required?

– Do they have any recommendations on insurance providers for child care owners in your county?

– What resources do they have to help you get started?

– Do they know about any sources for grants or low-interest start-up loans?

– Are there local or county support groups that meet to discuss child care issues?

There may be other questions you’ll think of, too. Don’t be intimidated. You have the right to get the best information to get started, and you owe it to yourself to start out as successfully and as knowledgably as possible.

BIG MISTAKE #7: Not getting licensed or certified by your state.

Getting licensed or certified with your state can be a bit of work, but it’s probably easier than you think. Usually, to get licensed you are required to take a certain amount of training (often very low-cost or even free) and your home will be inspected once or twice a year by a state inspector to ensure that guidelines are being met.

There are lots of reasons why you should consider it…the top reason being that you can charge higher rates!

Here are some of the other benefits you will gain by being licensed or certified with your state:

– You will be proud to know you are providing the highest quality of care (and you can communicate this to others).

– Potential parents will be more likely to choose you, so you won’t have to spend as much on marketing and advertising

– Schools and other businesses will be more likely to recommend you.

– You may be eligible for grants or low-interest loans to expand your daycare or improve it with a new outdoor play area, etc.

– You will stand out from the crowd as a superior business.

You will have the highest chance for success if you strive to be the best at what you do.

Good luck!

Type 2 Diabetes – Excess Sweating!

Excessive sweating is a problem for many individuals. The condition, known as hyperhidrosis, is estimated to affect approximately 180 million people worldwide. Some people suffer from it due to certain medical conditions. One condition that can create excessive sweating is diabetes.

Diabetes does not directly cause hyperhidrosis, meaning excessive sweating is not a direct symptom of Type 2 diabetes such as frequent urination or excessive thirst. However, diabetes does create the opportunity for someone to experience excessive sweating under certain conditions…

For example:

  • if a diabetic is not properly monitoring their blood sugar levels and they go too long without food, causing a hypoglycemic episode, the person with diabetes can sweat excessively. This is because the body is under duress from low blood sugar and is going into panic mode. Since the body is craving sugar it begins to show signs of the stress that is being placed on it.
  • some common symptoms of hypoglycemia are mild trembling, confusion, fatigue, rapid heart rate and, excessive sweating.

Even though hyperhidrosis can be quite annoying to deal with and rather embarrassing, it can also be a very helpful clue for a diabetic that something is wrong. A diabetic who is not paying close attention to their blood sugar levels can start to feel the ill effects of an imbalance, but might chalk it up:

  • to being tired,
  • not sleeping well, or
  • any number of other unconnected reasons.

The excessive sweating can signal the individual this is something more serious than just not getting enough rest. It could be the key symptom which informs you that hypoglycemia is setting in and give you sufficient warning to alter the episode before it becomes too serious.

Another way that hyperhidrosis affects diabetics is through their medication. Some diabetic medications have side effects that accompany them, with certain ones being more prominent to some diabetics than others. For some people with Type 2 diabetes, excessive sweating is an unfortunate side effects of their medication.

If your anti-diabetes medication is causing excess sweating you need to talk to your doctor about possibly switching you to something else. This may or may not be a possibility depending on the medication you are currently taking and the level of your disease.

There are things that you can do to offset any excessive sweating. Keeping off excess weight and exercising regularly will help, even if your medication cannot be changed. Drinking plenty of water is another. Avoid skipping meals and especially snacks if they are prescribed, as this puts unnecessary stress on your body.

Liver Problems – What are the Symptoms?

Liver problems can range from mild liver congestion to a serious liver disease. Depending on the problem, many people are unaware they have a liver problem and may only have vague symptoms. One of the most common symptoms is chronic tiredness. These people generally feel lethargic and sluggish during the day, especially in the morning.

Due to the fact that the liver is one of the hardest working organs in the body and has many roles, there are a number of problems that can occur with the liver. The three main categories these problems fall into are:

1. Disease of the liver cells

2. Problems producing or secreting bile

3. Problems with detoxification

How do you know if you have a liver problem?

Tests are available through standard pathology labs that measure liver enzymes, total protein, albumin and bilirubin. Although these tests are called liver ‘function’ tests, they indicate whether the liver is damaged rather than how it is functioning. In other words, they are used to detect liver diseases, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis as well as liver cells being damaged from viruses, bacteria, alcohol, drugs and so on. These tests are not useful in detecting mild problems with liver congestion and sluggish detoxification. This is best done by observing your symptoms. However, it is important to consult your practitioner and have the tests performed anyway, just to rule out the possibility of liver disease.

An ultrasound can detect if there is a blockage in the bile duct. This is most commonly caused by the presence of gallstones in the biliary duct. It is estimated that around 10-20% of people over 40 years of age have gallstones and their presence is linked to a high fat, low fibre diet. The presence of gallstones in the bile duct typically causes nausea and pain. Bile flow can also be impaired through the liver, however this can be difficult to detect with standard testing.

General symptoms that can indicate a liver problem

  • Feel tired and unrefreshed when you wake up
  • Energy levels fluctuate throughout the day, with your tiredness becoming worse around mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon
  • Difficulty losing weight
  • Frequent headaches
  • Bad breath, digestive problems, bloating, gas, indigestion
  • Allergies and intolerances to foods that are worsening as time goes on
  • Reactions to many chemicals including cleaning products, petrol, paint, perfumes, bleaches, etc.
  • Problems digesting fatty/creamy/oily foods. They can make you feel unwell, nauseous or cause heart burn and reflux
  • A yellowish tinge to the skin, eyes and palms of the hands
  • Reactions to drugs, in particular headache tablets, antibiotics and anti-histamines
  • An intolerance to alcohol. Either you get drunk very quickly or you have bad hangovers that are out of proportion to the amount of alcohol you have drunk
  • Caffeine gives you a strong buzz and can keep you awake for hours
  • When you eat asparagus, you have a funny smell in your urine
  • Skin problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, general rashes, itchy skin
  • Hot flushes that feel as if they rise up from the torso towards the head
  • You frequently wake up around 1-3am in the morning

    Diatoms: Interesting Facts

Diatoms are tiny single-celled organisms that make up diatomaceous earth. They were first discovered in 1702 by Anton van Leeuwenhoek and for hundreds of years these microscopic creatures have been studied and analyzed. Richard B. Hoover contributed to this research by travelling the world, studying diatoms and collecting new species. In a June 1979 Edition of National Geographic, he published his exciting findings on these extraordinary organisms.

Below are some of the most exciting and intriguing findings regarding diatoms:

    • While studying a diatom collection in Belgium, that had been dried on paper in 1834, Richard B. Hoover was shocked to find that after adding water to a slide, the diatoms were revived and began to swim around… after nearly 150 years!
    • More than twenty-five thousand species of diatoms have been discovered, none of which have the same shell.
    • Diatoms exist in large numbers in most bodies of water throughout the world. In fact, just one liter of seawater can contain as many as ten million diatoms!
    • The greatest numbers of diatoms exist in cold oceans.
    • Diatoms can thrive wherever there is light, water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients. In some cases diatoms can even live out of the water – in moist conditions, they are able to live in topsoil, or attached to moss, tree trunks and even brick walls.
    • Diatoms are very resilient and can endure lengthy droughts.
    • Diatoms vary greatly in size, with the largest measuring only one millimeter across.
    • A species of diatom found on Cape Cod, known as Hantzschia virgata, bury themselves in the sand when the tide is in. Just after the tide goes out, the diatoms glide to the surface in order to sunbathe. Their timing is impeccable, as they know precisely when to bury themselves back in to the sand, retreating just moments before the tide returns. In fact, it was discovered that even after keeping these diatoms for weeks in a laboratory their timing remained constant. They continued to dig in and out of the sand with such amazing accuracy that their actions could be used to predict the tide!
    • Diatoms are impressive shell builders. They transform dissolved silicon into a silica almost identical to the gemstone opal.
    • Diatoms contribute enormous amounts of oxygen to our atmosphere.
    • Huge numbers of diatoms die and sink to the bottom of river, lake and ocean beds. In some areas, sea floors can be covered in a layer as deep as 984 feet (300 meters)! Over many years these layers of dead diatoms fossilize and become rich deposits of diatomaceous earth, or diatomite.

Ingredients of Your Chinchilla Dust Bath

Although rain rarely visits the dry and rocky environment of the Andes Mountains in South America, wild chinchillas have adapted and managed to make the most out of their environment. For the various succulents covering the area alone, these have evolved in such a way that whenever precious water is available, either growing vast roots underground to soak every drop, growing very close to the ground for immediate access, or storing the water in their juicy flesh. For wild chinchillas, eating some succulents replaces drinking. And since water is hard to come by, grooming includes bathing in the fine sand and ash scattered about.

Since many chinchillas have been bred in captivity and domesticated, companies and pet owners have tried to mimic aspects of their natural habitat by providing them with a variety of special chinchilla dust baths available in pet stores.

Chinchilla’s fur is rich and thick, helping them insulate their bodies against extreme temperatures, protecting their sensitive skin from bacteria and parasites. Unlike other domestic animals, you cannot wash your pet chinchillas with water or shampoo. Their skin is prone to bacterial and fungal infection with moisture. This is why, even when in the wild, chinchillas roll in fine dust to clean. Chinchilla dust is formulated in such a way that it does not dry out your pet’s coat, only absorbing and stripping away excess oil, dirt, and moisture.

Most chinchilla dust baths available in the market today usually have the vague phrase “natural chinchilla dust” written under the ingredients portion of the label. In the wild, the dust they roll around in is composed of either fine volcanic ash or eroded pumice rock found in the area; or a mix of both. Some products are made of grounded pumice rock. The “Chinchilla Bath Sand” product claims that it is made entirely out of “100% Natural Volcanic Mountain Pumice found in the Andes Mountains.” The tagline also includes that such an ingredient is “dust free” lessening the trouble of dust flying around during bathing time.

For other products like “Sun Seed Sunthing Special Chinchilla Dust Bath”, the product lists ‘Fuller’s earth” as an ingredient. This is a mineral that is known to be capable of absorbing oil, moisture, and other impurities; also added in some cosmetics, powders and pharmaceuticals. Interestingly, movie sets also use the powdered mineral to simulate larger and cheaper explosions. For other uses in pet care, the ingredient is also known to be in cat litter and other pet powders.

Other possible ingredients put in the mix of chinchilla dust include either a portion of really fine sand or fragrances. Be wary of cheap knock-offs that are only made of sand as this doesn’t really do a good job in cleaning your pet chinchilla. The Kaytee and Pet Scentsations brands offer various chinchilla dust baths with scents ranging from melon, to raspberry and vanilla. Other brands state their products to be environment-friendly and all-natural. These are great considerations in choosing the perfect chinchilla dust variety for you.

Chinchilla dust is usually affordable depending on the size you require or would like to keep in stock. Prices range from approximately $4 (for about 30 ounces) to about $30 (for a big sack of over 60 pounds of dust). Many pet owners usually try a variety of products to see which best suits the chinchilla they have.

Knowing what exactly is in the chinchilla dust bath you buy helps in understanding your chinchilla and its basic needs even better. And just like any good consumer, it pays to be on the look-out for only the best products available for your pet.

10 Ways to Treat Endometriosis Naturally

    What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a painful condition in which endometrial tissue, which lines the uterus, can appear in the pelvic cavity and elsewhere in the body where it doesn’t belong. Endometriosis is one of the most frequent diseases in gyneacology, affecting 15-20% of women in their reproductive life, contributing to 5% cases of infertility. Scientists do not know exactly how the tissue ends up where it doesn’t belong but there are a number of theories which I mention below.

Regardless of where it is located this endometrial tissue will behave in the same way as the uterus lining by responding to monthly cycling of hormones and bleeds during menstruation. In the case of Endometriosis, because the shed endometrial tissue and blood in other parts of the body can not leave the body through the vagina as the menstrual blood can, it forms scar tissue and painful adhesions. Endometrial growths are most commonly found in the pelvic cavity and can grow on ovaries, pelvic ligaments, tubes, bowel and bladder.

There are a few theories as to how the tissue manages to migrate. Some suggesting retrograde flow of menstrual blood and seeding or attaching to other tissues, while others suggest endometrial cells being laid down in the wrong places during the embryologic development of the foetus. This theory emerged as it could not be explained how endometrial tissue reached the brain though the retrograde flow of menstrual blood? Many women experience retrograde flow into the abdominal cavity via the fallopian tubes, but this is usually picked up by the immune system and cleaned up by macrophages. Yet another theory suggests that endometrial growths start from stem cells and are caused by a combination of factors. Endometriosis can cause heavy and painful periods, abnormal bleeding and infertility.

As endometriosis has been associated with the presence of auto-antibodies and the presence of other autoimmune diseases, scientists are now suggesting that endometriosis is an autoimmune disease.

Although genetic predisposition, environmental factors and altered immune and endocrine function are believed to play a significant role in endometriosis, the true cause still remains unclear.

How does endometriosis lead to infertility?

If the endometrial tissue grows within the fallopian tubes it can block them. Due to inflammation there are a high number of macrophages in the area which can destroy the sperm and interfere with implantation. Ovulation may or may not occur, and even if it does occur there may not be enough progesterone to support the implantation. The risk of ectopic pregnancy is higher than usual. Anti-endometrial antibodies may be responsible for the high incidence of miscarriages and poor implantation often associated with this condition.

Here are 8 ways you can treat endometriosis – naturally

Endometriosis is viewed as an estrogen dependent condition and the endometrial implants have been shown to reduce in size when estrogen levels in the body normalize or drop. Studies have found that inflammation resulting from bleeding of the endometrial implants each month actually increases estrogen activity. Another contributing factor is low progesterone which can lead to anovulatory cycles.

    1. Eat organically grown food and avoid exposure to commercial insect repellents. Studies have found that exposure to chlorinated hydrocarbons (e.g., DDT, PCB, pentachlorophenol, hexachlorocyclohexane) has been associated with an increase in rates of miscarriage and endometriosis.

    2. Avoid soft plastics. This includes drinking out of plastic water bottles, storing your food in plastic food wrappers, wearing surgical gloves, buying products in food wrap and touching printing ink with your hands. What do all these have in common? They contain Phthalates and PVC. Known endocrine disruptors and estrogen mimickers, linked to asthma, negative developmental and birth defects, immune system dysfunction, endometriosis and infertility.

    3. Reduce your intake of animal products. The first line of natural treatment for endometriosis is to minimize intake of animal products due to the high content of hormones, pesticides and herbicides which are known endocrine disruptors.

    4. Eat bitter foods to support clearance of estrogen via the liver. They are grapefruit, lemons, limes, rocket, endive, romaine lettuce, artichokes. To the same end drink dandelion and St. Mary’s thistle tea.

    5. Avoid allergens and take immune system supplements. As you’ve seen the immune system plays a role in endometriosis. As such you want to make sure you provide your immune system with all the key elements required for optimal function. They are vitamin C, vitamin E, betacarotene, zinc and selenium and probiotics. In addition have an IgG 90 foods intolerance test. This will show you what foods you are intolerant to. These need to be avoided to help balance the immune system.

    6. Exercise regularly to improve circulation, toxin and waste removal. Exercise also boosts your metabolism (which is good for your endocrine function) and immune system. Both of which are crucial in treatment of endometriosis.

    7. Include foods that promote circulation and waste removal. The following foods and spices promote circulation and waste removal cayenne, basil, chives, eggplant, garlic, ginger, kohlrabi, leek, nutmeg, pepper, rice, rosemary, scallion, spearmint, turmeric, cinnamon, lemons, zest of lemon, seaweed.

    8. Increase your fibre intake to improve estrogen clearance from your intestines, including: adzuki beans, psylium husks, apples, other legumes, nuts and seeds.

    9. Take a high quality fish oil (make sure the one you choose is tested for mercury and stabilized with vitamin E (to protect it from oxidation)). Fish oil reduces inflammation associated with endometriosis, minimizing associated pain and improving the odds of healthy implantation. I recommend Krill oil (the plankton whales and other fish eat) as it’s less likely to be contaminated. Ideally you want to have 1000mg three times a day with food. Store it in the fridge. To see which supplement I recommend go to the site below.

    10. Take an iodine supplement there is an established link between hypothyroidism and endometriosis and so taking an iodine supplement can correct underactive thyroid function.

Type 2 Diabetes – Predicting High Blood Pressure and Preeclampsia in Women With Gestational Diabetes

Women with Gestational diabetes or pregnancy-related diabetes, are at risk for developing high blood pressure and preeclampsia, a condition that can lead to eclampsia or convulsions, and death.

In February of 2018, the online journal PLOS ONE reported on a study showing a molecule called FAB protein 4 (FABP4) could be used to predict the likelihood of high blood pressure and preeclampsia developing before there were any signs and symptoms.

Scientists at Peking University in Beijing, China, looked at…

    • 637 women with Gestational diabetes and
    • 41 women with healthy pregnancies.

They measured all the participant’s blood levels of FABP4 during their second trimester, or second three months, of their pregnancy. FABP4 averaged a higher blood concentration in women diagnosed with Gestational diabetes and who went on to develop high blood pressure or preeclampsia than in the women who developed Gestational diabetes and who did not. The Investigators concluded blood levels of FABP4 predicted which pregnant women would develop high blood pressure or preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia of pregnancy consists of the following…

    • high blood pressure,
    • swelling, and
    • damage to kidneys, liver, or other organs

Signs and symptoms of preeclampsia include…

    • swollen ankles,
    • blood pressure readings over 140/90 seen on two occasions,
    • protein in the urine,
    • headaches,
    • sensitivity to light, blurred vision, or loss of vision,
    • upper abdominal pain, usually on the right side of the body,
    • nausea and vomiting,
    • passing a smaller amount of urine,
    • shortness of breath due to fluid in lungs,
    • elevated liver enzymes,
    • thrombocytopenia, or a lowered level of thrombocytes: blood cells that help with clotting.

In normal healthy pregnancies, the placenta grows blood vessels to take blood to the fetus. For some reason, in preeclampsia, the placenta develops narrow blood vessels that do not transport blood adequately. When small blood vessels attempt to convey a sufficient amount of blood through the placenta to feed the fetus, blood backs up and increases pressure in the mother’s circulation. As in other types of high blood pressure, kidney damage can take place as the kidney attempts to clean the blood. Liver damage can take place when tiny blood vessels are damaged and break down red blood cells. The liver becomes overloaded as it attempts to get rid of damaged red blood cells.

Treatment for preeclampsia is aimed at preventing full-blown eclampsia. Drugs for…

    • lowering blood pressure,
    • cortisone to avoid liver damage, and
    • medications such as magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures

are prescribed. If the baby’s lungs are mature enough to breathe, labor may be induced. The ability to predict preeclampsia could be a great help in preventing serious complications.

2 Thrusting Techniques That Drive Her Wild in Bed

This probably won’t come as a surprise to you, but almost no guys take the time to think about the thrusting techniques they use during sex.

I remember when I was having sex, before I learned all the “cool tricks” and ways to give women multiple orgasms, I never used to think about my thrusting techniques.

And if I did somehow think about how I was thrusting I just assumed “it probably doesn’t matter how i’m thrusting anyway”…

    How wrong I was.

One of the things I discovered on my “journey” to becoming a great lover is that the thrusting techniques you use during sex can make the difference between her orgasming 3+ times or her feeling nothing.

So if you take nothing away from reading this but one thing then let it be this.

Experiment with different thrusting techniques every time you have sex.

As soon as you start consistently experimenting, suddenly you’ll be shocked when you come across a few different thrusting techniques that drive her wild.

And as you keep experimenting you’ll discover more and more great thrusting techniques, and eventually you’ll have a nice collection of thrusting techniques you can pick from every time you have sex that you know will get her to orgasm.

Now let me get a bit clearer about what exactly I mean by “thrusting techniques that drive her wild”.

Thrusting techniques are how you thrust your penis in and out during sex.

Most men opt for the fast, all in and all out approach with no change of rhythm, speed, depth or timing.

Here’s where you can be different.

Start mixing up the rhythm, speed, depth and timing of your thrusting.

Go fast for a bit, then go slow for a bit.

Go deep for a bit, then shallow for a bit.

    You get the idea.

But you can also get a bit more advanced than this…

So here are two examples of some slightly more advanced thrusting techniques you can try out or get ideas from…

1 – slowly increasing depth and speed

women love build-up, teasing and anticipation.

You sticking your “thing” in full depth as soon as you start sex is not any woman’s idea of a good time (unless you’ve already got a history of raw physical attraction and exceptional pleasure giving, in which case you can break the rules now and again).

Like I said, women like to be teased.

So one great thrusting technique for this is to start off sex by entering your penis into her vagina at an absolute minimal depth and very slowly.

    Then take it out again.

Then next time enter very slightly deeper and very slightly faster.

    Then take it out again.

And repeat the process getting gradually deeper and faster.

Overall it’s a fairly slow process and it should take several minutes until you’re in full depth.

And because of all the teasing and anticipation you created, she’ll appreciate your deep thrusting 10x more than if you started full depth straight away.

2 – slow and shallow with the occasional slow deep thrust

this is another great thrusting technique for getting her to appreciate your deep thrust.

If you do this right you can experience her gasp when you go in deep.

How this one works is pretty simple.

Most of the time you’ll be thrusting very shallow, roughly an inch or two in depth.

Then every now and again, like once for every 10 shallow thrusts, perform a very slow thrust to full depth.

Because of the contrast to all the shallow thrusts she’s just experienced she will love the feeling of you going in all the way.

    It works great.

And remember to just go in deep once and then return to doing 10 or so shallow thrusts before going deep again.

    So there you have it.

Two examples of different thrusting techniques.

There’s an endless amount of ways you can vary your rhythm, speed, depth and timing while thrusting to create an incredible experience for her.

    So get experimenting now.

    Molescum – Molluscum Contagiosum

Molescum – also known as Molluscum Contagiosum, or simply Mollescum – is a viral infection of the skin. Molescum is actually pretty much harmless but poses a significant inconvenience for anybody who becomes infected with the virus. Molluscum Contagiosum in children is where it is most commonly seen. However, adults can and do become infected. Persons with compromised immune systems are most likely to be easily infected. Even healthy persons, however, are vulnerable to molescum because it is such a highly contagious virus.

Molescum spreads easily through skin to skin contact, contact with infected materials such as towels and clothing and often through sexual contact. The actual condition Molescum causes is a patch of Molluscum Contagiosum warts that are nothing more than pimples to the eye. They don’t hurt or itch but they can take very long to go away. In fact, Molescum resolves itself naturally in a healthy human but the amount of time it takes (up to a year!) causes many people to seek treatment.

Molluscum contagiosum treatment usually involves topical creams, surgical extraction of the molluscum lesions and even something as far-out as using the juice from a particular type of beetle to dissipate the warts. Surgical removal is generally quick and easy and if done well, leaves no scarring. This is a fantastic option because while creams can work in time, molescum spreads very easily to healthy skin on the same person. Molescum spreads especially well on wet skin. The main reason to get rid of Molescum is to prevent spreading it to others and also for cosmetic reasons. The molluscum warts are rather unsightly, particularly if they occur around or on the face or genitals.

Another treatment option for molescum sufferers is to have their molluscum warts frozen off. This process is only slightly painful and sees decent results. Children, in particular, should be treated as soon as a molescum diagnosis is confirmed because of their gregarious nature. Spreading mollescum to others is almost guaranteed among kids! For individual molluscum warts, you can remove them yourself at home. All you need to do is sterilize a needle and pierce the skin on top of the pimple.

Then you will need to widen the opening and squeeze out the little white ball. The white ball is actually the virus, which is hidden in this ball in such an ingenious way, that it takes the human immune system such a long time to indentify and combat it. Once you’ve removed the virus ball, apply antiseptic to the small wound and allow it to heal. Voila!

For more involved cases of molescum consulting with a dermatologist is wise.
